Q & A: Lynx Hawthorne
Editor's Note: Former SicEmSports.com Publisher and current Orangebloods.com Recruiting Analyst Jason Howell was recently in Weimar to visit two of that program's top recruits, athlete Lynx Hawthorne. Hawthorne committed to the Bears on April 12. Howell also visited 2013 offensive lineman Ja'Braylin Thomas. Baylor is the first program to offer Thomas. The following is Howell's Q & A session with Hawthorne toward the end of the 2010-11 school year.
On working with the team and doing 7-on-7
It's kind of a tough time of the year right now because everyone is still in baseball and leaving track but we get out here during the athletic period and after school and throw the ball around. Other than that it's in the weight room.
On seeing all the college scouts looking on
I didn't really know how the whole process worked. I didn't know they couldn't talk to you or any of that kind of stuff, but we know when they're coming out and we try to put on a good show. There's been a hefty amount of them out here.
On Baylor and graduating early
I'm getting on it. The whole school part is the hardest thing. I'm having to get all my credits before then because it's a 4x4. I'm looking forward to getting there.
On Summer Camps
Mostly Baylor, TCU said they wanted to see me at camp. Tech said the same. But Baylor definitely is the first camp I'll go to and after that I'll see where we go.
On Texas coming out to Weimar
They said to come on by for a few camps, but I think they were mainly looking at Ja'Braylin.
On working at QB and WR
I'll do whatever it takes to help the team win and as of now that's quarterback. Receiver is definitely where my love is. It's been a while since I've played receiver, and when I get up to Baylor I hope I can get back in the groove of it. Right now I feel a little stiff. Catching-wise its pretty much the same as its always been.
On what he prides himself on as a receiver
I like making people miss. Catching the ball, if you don't catch it, you're pretty much pointless at receiver. I'd say my hands are probably the best thing I have. I don't drop many.
SicEmSports.com caught up with Crockett wide receiver and four-star recruit Dominique Wheeler. Wheeler confirmed that there are six teams he is considering including Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, SMU and Oklahoma. When asked if he had a leader, Wheeler said he did not. He is still unsure of a time of when he could visit Waco. He is reviewing camp dates. Wheeler is scheduled to go to TCU's camp in Pearland Friday and then possibly trips to Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. However, those have not been finalized. When asked if he was still interested in Baylor, Wheeler said, "I am interested in Baylor. I like the way they play. I went to their game against Kansas last year, and I was really impressed with their offense.''
