July 26, 2011The Coahoma (Clarksdale, Miss.) CC has began to turn out some of the top prospects in the Mississippi JUCO ranks and this year is no different. One talented prospect that has began to turn heads is defensive end prospect Adam Williams. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder saw extensive playing time as a freshman and looks to take a leadership roll as a sophomore.
This week he reached a decision on where he continue his football career.
"I committed to Southern Miss." Williams said. "I was talking to my defensive coordinator last night and he was telling me that they didn't have many spots left. So I called up Coach Adams and committed."
Early on Tuesday he made things official with head coach Larry Fedora.
"We got back in touch today and I got to talk to Coach Fedora and I told him I wanted to commit," he said.
Williams is familiar with Southern Miss, as he is a Mississippi native. He played his high school football at Rosa Fort (Tunica, Miss.) in the Mississippi Delta.
"The most important thing was playing time," he said. "But, it's going to be nice to be in-state and not too far from home."
Southern Miss and Marshall both extended offers to the talented defender early in the process and he was receiving strong interest from both Mississippi and Miss State.
"Southern Miss just recruited me the hardest," he said. "They stayed with me."
Williams is expected to compete for playing dime at the defensive end position when he arrives on campus next spring.
Southern Miss defensive line coach Deke Adams was responsible for recruiting Williams for the Eagles.
Williams becomes the 12th confirmed commitment for the Eagles for the 2012 signing class.
