November 5, 2011David Smith landed in Boston Wednesday night and went to dinner at Del Frisco's restaurant, and that was the start of a pretty nice weekend on his official visit to Boston College.
"The steaks there were about $65 and I definitely ordered that one," Smith said. "It was a fun time."
Later Wednesday night, the Midlothian (Ill.) Bremen running back stopped by a team meeting and then relaxed in his hotel room.
Thursday morning he ate breakfast, went on a campus tour, saw the facilities, sat down and talked to his position coach, attended an academic meeting and then got ready for the BC-Florida State game.
Prior to the game, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound three-star prospect had a chance to talk with Boston College athletics director Gene DeFilippo and then witness the atmosphere in the stadium.
Even though it was another bad night for the Eagles, a 38-7 loss to the Seminoles, Smith said he really enjoyed himself and that Boston College is definitely under serious consideration.
"It was a tough game for Boston College, it's been a tough year for them, but it happens in football," Smith said.
"It was a pretty crazy environment. It's in Boston so it's a great city. It was pretty similar to Chicago, downtown Chicago, so I liked it. I liked the city feel of it.
"They have a lot of young guys that are playing now. There is potential. I'm high on Boston College."
Before Smith makes his decision, he wants to take official visits to Iowa and West Virginia. Arizona, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Oregon State, Purdue and Vanderbilt have also offered him.
After he takes his remaining visits, Smith should be ready to make a decision and the Eagles are definitely still in the mix.
"I would say after I take all my official visits I'll be ready to make my decision after that," Smith said. "They are definitely still in the picture."
