LaGrange DE Daniel visiting MU this weekend

LaGrange High School in LaGrange, Georgia.

I'll never forget the name of that school as long as I live.

For college football recruiting fanatics, they would definitely know why.

That's because it's the place that produced one of the most impressive linebackers in high school football recruiting, Tray Blackmon.

When you watched the film of Blackmon coming out of high school, his bone rattling tackles sent chills up your spine.

He racked up over 100 tackles his senior year and led LaGrange to a AAA state championship in the state of Georgia.

Blackmon would take his exploits to Auburn University where his reputation as a ferocious hitter spread throughout the SEC.

So who's the next dominant defensive player to come out of LaGrange?

Well look no further than supremely gifted defensive end Javonte Daniel.

The three-star defensive end displays a freakish combination of speed, power, and strength that allows him to chase down offensive players with ease.

On blitzes he immediately shoots in the backfield, giving the ball carrier little or no time at all to react.

He also sheds his blocks with ease and has excellent closing speed.

The 6'4, 215 pounder plays much faster than his 4.8 40 yard dash time and has excellent "field speed".

As a junior Daniel racked up 70 tackles, three sacks, six tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries.

His stunning stats gained the attention of plenty of college coaches across the country.

Boasting offers from the likes of Arkansas, ECU, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, and many others.

Daniel will be taking official visits to his two finalists this month: Marshall and Kansas.

He'll be visiting Kansas on the weekend of January 21st.

The Georgia native is visiting Marshall this weekend and he headlines a loaded list of 2011 prospects the Marshall football staff is hosting.

Oozing with a jaw-dropping level of athleticism, the MU coaching staff would love to see Daniel in Green and White for years to come.

HerdNation had the opportunity to catch up with the freakish defender last night to talk about his college football recruitment process, among other topics.

Below is the interview.

Interview with LaGrange Defensive End Javonte Daniel

HerdNation: First off Javonte talk a little bit about your upcoming visit to Marshall University.

Javonte Daniel: "Well I just want to see what they're about. I don't know much so this will be a good trip."

HerdNation: Javonte talk about the college football recruitment process and how it's been going for you?

Javonte Daniel: "Well it started off good. My junior year I sent out my tape and within a couple weeks I had a couple offers. My first offer came from East Carolina, then Arkansas offered me. It's just going pretty good, just been taking it one day at a time. I'm just listening to everybody and trying to see what everybody has to offer."

HerdNation: Javonte you go to LaGrange high school. How does it feel to go to the same high school as Tray Blackmon>?

Javonte Daniel: "It feels pretty good knowing that he was such a big recruit. I can't say too much about him because I don't really know him but I heard he was an awesome linebacker. I heard he was a great guy and he seems pretty cool. But it feels pretty good knowing that I came from the same school as him."

HerdNation: What about favorites at this point? Do you have any favorites in the recruiting process?

Javonte Daniel: "I'm taking two visits down to Marshall and the University of Kansas."

HerdNation: So tell me what you like about Marshall University, Javonte?

Javonte Daniel: "Since I haven't seen it I don't know very much about it but I've been talking to Coach (Fred) Tate. He's a nice guy. They send mail by the loads...(laughs). Every coach on the staff sends a letter. All of the coaches send one letter and I get them at the same time. They sent me about fifteen letters every month. I've been talking to the coaching staff. They seem like good guys. I just want to get up there and see what they're about and see if I like it up there."

HerdNation: Talk to me about Kansas University, Javonte?

Javonte Daniel: "I haven't seen them either but I met the defensive line coach. Actually we're friends by now. Coach (Vic) Shealy is recruiting me and I've known him for a little while. I've got a good relationship with the coaches. I take that visit--my official visit to Kansas next weekend (January 21st) so I'm going to see what they're about."

HerdNation: What schools have offered you a scholarship, Javonte?

Javonte Daniel: "East Carolina, Arkansas, Southern Miss, Memphis, Kansas, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, UAB. That's all I can name off the top of my head right now."

HerdNation: Who you got winning in the Super Bowl, Javonte?

Javonte Daniel: "Right now I like the Falcons. Just because I'm from Georgia. They're a team I've always liked."
