This past weekend one of the players that was in East Lansing for the Spartan Junior Day Event was running back Juwan Lewis of Muskegon High School. caught up with the 5-foot-11, 200-pound Lewis and got the details on his recruitment.

Last year Michigan State was able to sign defensive lineman Damon Knox out of Muskegon High school. This year they are back in Big Red Country looking at Lewis as a possible running back for the class of 2012. Lewis already has 1 scholarship offer and is hoping to pick up more. He talked with about his recruitment.

"Things are going well," he stated. "I was offered last week by Western Michigan. Right now I am hearing from most of the Big Ten, some SEC schools, ACC, Pac 10 and Navy. I went to Michigan State's Junior Day last Sunday and I will be going to a few more soon."

Lewis had the following to say about his time in East Lansing:

"When I went to State, I liked it a lot," Lewis stated. "It is the kind of place I could be for 4-years. I like the tradition they have. The coaches said I reminded them of Javon Ringer. They said the like me a lot they want me to around more often. My recruiting coach is Coach Tressel and I plan on going to camp this summer."

As many know, Muskegon High School is the most storied football programs in the state of Michigan. Lewis was an important reason for the teams' success last year and he is looking forward to helping his team get back to the top in 2012.

"Last year I rushed for 1031 yards and scored 12 touchdowns," Lewis said. "I averaged 7.6 yards per carry. We are going to be very strong. We are going to be very smart on the field this year. We are going to focus on the little things this year to help make us great."

The visit to Michigan State has moved the Spartans up as far as the teams Lewis is seriously considering. Lewis talked about his favorites and where Michigan State stands.

I really like Michigan, Ohio State, Northwestern Syracuse and Alabama, he said. "State just started recruiting me hard. Now that I have seen the school I am going to take them much more into consideration."

As far as what the school he will ultimately attend, Lewis does have some specific things he is looking for in a college.

"I want to make sure they have the major I want, sports journalism," he said. "I want to make sure they have a successful program and that they have a hands on approach. I hope to commit to a school before my senior year or after a few games."

Michigan State will likely look to sign two running backs of the class of 2012 considering they did not sign any last year. Lewis will certainly get a long look at camp this summer. will be sure to keep an eye out for Lewis on the summer camp and combine scene.
