Hutchinson (Kan,) C.C. WR wants to visit Tech
Hutchinson (Kan.) C.C. wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson's recruitment continues to heat up after a stellar freshman season. With offers in hand from across the country, Texas Tech will have to fight through stiff competition to gain the 2012 target's services. The Red Raiders have been recruiting Patterson for the past couple of months and assistant coach Tommy Mainord has led the charge.
"Coach Mainord is a good coach and since I've gotten to know him I've really liked how he is off the field," Patterson said. "He's got a good personality and has been easy to talk to. I get along with him really well."
Patterson indicated that Tech was one of the schools recruiting him the hardest right now, but that list is by no means a short one.
"Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas Tech, Baylor, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Oklahoma State are the programs I hear from a lot," he said. "There's a few more but those are the schools who have been on me the most."
The 6-foot-4, 205-pounder is familiar with the Red Raider program, mostly due to the prolific nature of their offense over the past decade.
"Yeah I'm really familiar with them. I know a lot about them because I've been looking at them quite a bit," Patterson said. "They run an offense that lets their receivers catch a lot of balls so that got my attention. I know they were the best offense in the country under their old coach, and they were still near the top of the rankings under their new coach. Their offense is pretty wide open and fast paced, and I like that. I like Texas Tech and I'd say that I'm very interested in them right now."
That interest in Tech is likely to lead to a visit to West Texas.
"I plan on making a visit to Texas Tech, hopefully pretty soon," Patterson said. "I'm trying to find one weekend coming up in the next month or so that I could take a trip down there. I don't know when it will be, but I'm trying to get there to check it out."
Patterson mentioned that a "laid-back" environment is something he's looking for in a college home. At this point he's not planning on making a decision until the fall.
"I'm just looking for a place where I can feel comfortable at. I want a place that's pretty laid back as far as the city goes, and I want to be somewhere that gets a lot of support from the fans of the program," he said. "I'm probably going to wait until sometime during the season to try and make a decision, after I've had a chance to make a few visits and see some schools in person."
Aside from Tech, Patterson currently holds offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Georgia, Kansas State, Miami (Fla.), Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, and Tennessee. He's also been shown interest by Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina.
