Tech enters mix for DeSoto CB
DeSoto (Texas) cornerback Jalen Mills has been getting attention from several different points on the map, including a few programs from outside of the State of Texas.
"I've been hearing the most lately from Virginia, Pitt, and Baylor," Mills said. "I'm interested in all of those programs and it really wouldn't matter to me if I had to travel away from home to play football. I'm just trying to find the best fit for me and I wouldn't say that distance is a factor."
Texas Tech has recently entered the mix as another program vying for the 6-foot, 180-pounder's services.
"I've heard a few times from Coach Robert Prunty at Texas Tech," he said. "I just got in contact with them around a week ago so we're still trying to get to know one another a little better. He's seemed like a good guy so far."
Mills has also gotten some background on Tech from his cousin, and 2012 Red Raider commit, La'Darius Newbold.
"He's talked to me about Tech before and what they're going to do on defense. He and Coach P have both talked about how solid of a defense they're building with some of their recruits from this class and the last one," Mills said. "I think they're young on that side of the ball, but they've got some talent. I know they're trying to keep bringing in talent to finish with a great defensive recruiting class again this year."
Mills has attended camps at Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana Tech, and TCU so far this summer. He's likely to visit the Texas A&M campus while in College Station for a 7-on-7 event later this month, and there's a good chance he could find himself in West Texas before the fall.
"I'd like to visit [Tech] and see what they have to offer," he said. "I don't know if I can before the summer is over, but I wouldn't mind taking a look if it's possible."
Mills currently holds offers from Baylor, Colorado State, Houston, Iowa State, Memphis, Nevada, North Texas, Pitt, Tulsa, UTEP, and Virginia.
