Golden ready for his senior season

With the football season slated to begin officially Monday night, it didn't take much time on the phone with Willis (Texas) running back Autrey Golden to get his feelings on the upcoming season. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound running back was foaming at the mouth at the thought of getting back on the field.

"We start today from 5-7 p.m.," Golden said. "It is really exciting. Myself and some of my teammates are really excited. We should be pretty good. Last year we had a powerhouse offense. If we can stop somebody then we are going to deep."

As a junior Golden was a big part of that offense, rushing for 1,139 yards, 12 touchdowns and caught another 18 passes for 144 yards and two scores. Golden averaged 7.4 yards per carry as a junior. The Texas back holds offers from UTEP, Colorado State, North Dakota and North Texas. Golden said he has been to the two Texas schools and liked what he saw.

"I went to UTEP to see the campus, get a feel for it and talk to the coaches," Golden said. "I really liked it and am interested in it. I also went to North Texas and it was a really pretty campus and they have a new coach, so they have excitement coming back. It was pretty much the same as UTEP. But I thought UTEP was a little more interested in me than North Texas."

The Colorado State Rams are also in the mix with Golden telling Goldandgreennews.com that they seemed to have more of a football focus than the other campuses he has seen.

"Out of all the schools, it seems like football is more of a priority at (CSU) than the other schools," Golden said. "They told me that I have my offer, but they have another running back greyshirted. I wanted to know that because I wanted to see where i wanted to visit."

Golden said he has not yet decided on where he will take his official visits.
