Dixon commits to Alabama

The University of Alabama reached into the junior college ranks once again to add its 23rd commitment of the 2012 recruiting class as cornerback Travell Dixon picked the Crimson Tide on Wednesday.

Dixon, a native of Miami, Fla., had been considered a lock for Alabama, but a late push by Florida State made things interesting. The JUCO defensive back also considered Mississippi State but ultimately chose UA and made his decision public via Twitter.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound cornerback played football at Eastern Arizona College the last two years. As a sophomore he finished with 30 tackles, four interceptions, five pass break-ups and a forced fumble.

Current Alabama defensive back DeQuan Menzie also came from the JUCO ranks when he signed with the Crimson Tide in 2010.

Dixon expects to enroll early and begin taking classes at UA in January.
