GBK: 1/6/12 Official Visit Weekend

Obviously their ultimate goal for Head Coach Rich Ellerson and his staff relative to this weekend's upcoming group of official visits is to lock down commitments from all of the prospects, minus Cedrik Bell ,Evan Finnane and Nate Guidry, who have already verbally committed to Army and will have an opportunity to bond with their future coaches and teammates.

For the fans that follow the Black Knights recruiting under Ellerson, they surely know that any prospects that desire to commitment during their official visit is declined by the staff.

Surely other programs jump at the opportunity to receive a pledge from a recruit during their official visit, so why not the Army Black Knights? Simply put, being on the West Point campus and all of it's history, tradition, top level facilities and of course one of the top ranked academic institutions in the nation ... it is easy for a recruit and even their parents to fall in love with such a weekend venue. Yes, that's is the ultimate goal, but for Coach Ellerson, it still proves more effective to allow "the moment" of the weekend to connect itself to the reality of being back home, whereby the recruit can gather his thoughts and make a rational decision.

This staff does not recruit players in order to win them over, but their visit represents the final stop of the overall recruiting process, whereby the prospect now has all the information to be able to make his decision within a day or two after the visit.

This weekend has approximately 11 players that will be on campus for their visit.

Pre-visit thoughts from the prospects

Along with commits Bell, Finnane and Guidry, this weekend visits will feature 3-star prospect Elijah St. Hilaire, as well as 6-foot-4, 210 running back Garrett Griffin, who is being recruited by defensive line coach, John Mumford and being viewed as linebacker and tight end by many college programs.

"Coach Mumford is from Kansas and he has pretty good ties to the state. He's a really good guy ... he's been to the house, he's been up to the school a couple of times and I like him a lot. I think he speaks well for the coaching staff."

"I heard there's a lot of history at West Point," shares Griffin, who also holds an offer from Air Force. "Everything is top notch there ... the facilities, the education and military aspect of it, I'm looking forward to visiting."

For the committed Bell, his perspective comes from a different view point, albeit his first time on campus. "I received my appointment on December 23rd, so it was a nice Christmas present and it's going to be cool to see the campus, since I'm going to be there for the next four years," says safety prospect who will enter the program as a direct admit.

"But I really just want to talk to the coaches to see what I have to do to get on the field next year."
