3-Star RB Talks Visit, Tabs MT as Frontrunner
With signing day just a few weeks away, the Middle Tennessee coaching staff hosted several visitors last weekend. Seminole Ridge High (FL) running back Gary Holmes was among the visitors on campus last weekend and he came away impressed.
"I loved it. I stayed in a nice hotel," Holmes raved. "We looked at the campus, the locker room, and the uniforms."
"I like Middle Tennessee a lot and I think I'm going to go there," Holmes continued.
He tried to give Middle Tennessee head coach Rick Stockstill a verbal commitment on visit, but Coach Stockstill encouraged Holmes to visit Western Michigan next weekend. Holmes holds offers Bryant, Western Michigan, Middle Tennessee, and indicated that Fordham may be jumping into the picture.
To go along with his offers, Holmes has received interest from the likes of Cincinnati, Duke, FAU, FIU, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, NC State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, and Wisconsin.
The 3-star back says he has added 10 pounds to his frame since his senior season ended and has a verified 40-yard dash time of 4.39 seconds to go along with a 35 inch vertical leap.
Holmes also excels in the classroom, where he carries a 3.2 GPA.
With Middle Tennessee going through a transitional period in regards to their coaching staff, Holmes said he was not too concerned by the Blue Raiders lack of a running back coach or offensive coordinator.
"It does kind of concern me a little bit but I know they'll take care of me," Holmes told GoMiddle.com, "Coach Brock did a fine job last year too."
At 5'9 and 185 pounds, Holmes seems to be on the small side of Division I running backs. But Middle Tennessee has had success in the past utilizing smaller backs and Holmes seems confident that he can play make plays too.
"I can play RB and slot. It doesn't matter if I play RB or receiver," Holmes said. "I like to have the ball in my hands."
With a visit to Western Michigan on the horizon, Holmes will have a decision to make. Will he take his talents up north to be a Bronco or will he join the Blue Raiders next fall.
GoMiddle.com will check back with Holmes after his visit to Western Michigan to see where his final destination will be.
