Shaker Heights (Ohio) athlete De’Niro Laster is no stranger to Ohio State. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound prospect has been to Columbus multiple times already, the latest trip coming last Sunday for the big junior day. Laster was able to meet with head coach Urban Meyer as well as his lead recruiter.

“I talked to coach Meyer and my recruiting coach, coach (Stan) Drayton,” said Laster. “Me, Donovan (Munger), and coach Drayton we talked for almost an hour straight. He said to both of us that he wanted to build a relationship with us. He said they are looking for character guys and guys that can play all-around and are really athletic and that is why he likes me.”

Laster is one of the most versatile athletes in the state of Ohio as he plays tight end, wide receiver, and linebacker for his high school and he could also project as a strong safety. During his talk with Drayton, Laster’s versatility was constantly brought up.

“He said they didn’t know yet (about which position they project him at),” Laster said. “He said he likes how versatile I am, he likes that I’m big and that I can move.”

Having been to Columbus a few times now, Laster says he is developing a good comfort level with the Ohio State program.

“I get more comfortable every time I go down there,” he said. “The first time I went down there I was amazed by all of the stuff that we saw on the tour everything. This time, being on the field and seeing all of the stands and everything, it makes me want to play.”

Laster has stayed pretty wide open during the early parts of his recruitment and while he is still open to all schools, he does have a group of six programs that are standing out at the moment.

“I do have a top six that I’m interested in, it’s not in order or anything,” he explained. “Ohio State is in there, Michigan is in there, West Virginia is in there, Tennessee is in there, I want to put Toledo in there because I like their program. I went their junior day and I liked it and they have a good program running and they are getting better every year. Also Georgia is recruiting me, I went down there about a week ago and I really liked everything.”
