Martey recruiting update

Clifton (Va.) Centreville running back Christian Martey made trips to Maryland, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia this summer.

"From the schools I've visited I really liked West Virginia a lot," Martey said. "I like their facilities, and I liked Wake Forest too, because of the atmosphere, like everyone got along and all of the coaches were really, really nice. I liked Maryland okay too; not as much. My mom didn't really like the place that much, but they're still definitely in there too, because she said it's my decision."

"And then Virginia Tech, I like Virginia Tech a lot too, because Coach Bud Foster coached my coach, so he talks to my coach about me. They're showing a lot of interest."

The 6-feet and 220-pound rising junior said West Virginia and Va. Tech are showing the most interest followed by Wake Forest, then Maryland.

He saw significant action at defensive tackle in Centreville's run to the state championship game last season along with his running back duties.

"Since I'm like 6-feet, 220 [pounds] I have the size to run over people of course and the power, but then also I run a 4.5, so I have enough speed to beat out corners and safeties if have to," Martey said. "And then I like to do a little cutting, not too much, I don't like to overdo it, and then I can catch out of the backfield."

Martey hopes to choose a school before his senior year.

"ACC, SEC, doesn't really matter to me, Big Ten doesn't really matter to me," Martey said. "I just want a good school I know that I'll have a good chance of playing and I want a good academic place, because I want to major in business, sports medicine or G.I.S. And I just want a place I don't care if it's too far, but I don't want it to be too, too far, like a max probably 14 hours, so my mom can come to my games."

He plans to visit Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and maybe Maryland this fall.
Jonathan Himebauch is Martey's primary recruiter for the Demon Deacons.

"I talk to him on Facebook all the time," Martey said. "It was nice to meet him in person. He was bigger than I expected, but he's a nice guy."

Martey added he wants to expand his recruitment to California, Oregon and Wisconsin.
