HD: Jones (Okla.) QB David Cornwell best of 2014?

TUTTLE, Okla. - It's going to be a good birthday for Jones (Okla.) Pro-Style quarterback David Cornwell.

While there might be some bruises in the morning it'll be worth it to the 6-foot-5, 215-pound junior.

Friday night Cornwell- who celebrates his 18th birthday Saturday- threw for 185 yards and a touchdown while adding 75 yards and a touchdown via the ground as Jones knocked off class 3A's No. 2 ranked Tuttle 23-7.

"Huge win. I've got to give it up to my guys Levi Fox and Randal Case they made some big time catches taking the wind out of their sails and that momentum hit us like a tidal wave and we took it stride," said Cornwell.

Engineering an 81-yard opening drive Cornwell punched it in on a quarterback sneak up the middle and never looked back as he then found Case on a 51-yard touchdown throw that gave the Longhorns the lead for good right before half at 14-7.

For Cornwell the celebration will be short lived as he heads into what he admits will be a crazy next few weeks hoping from campus to campus trying to gain as much knowledge as possible about the schools interested in the rising Sooner State prospect.

Last weekend he checked out Michigan as they shutout Illinois 45-0. This weekend it'll be Oklahoma State with the likes of Arkansas and Alabama in his future.

"It was great. Great environment. The biggest college football stadium. All of the coaches were great. Facilities and then what you can't see is the tradition there. Great tradition," said Cornwell on his trip to Ann Arbor.

"All the alumni everyone that is there they are never not going to have a sold out crowd and just the type of people there smart kids, head on their shoulders it's just a great place to be."

"We've got Oklahoam State this weekend then Ole Miss-Arkansas then we got Alabama and then we're going to hit some other games but Alabama is one I'd really like to nail down. No. 1 team in the land pro-style offense they fit me and I think they want me too so it's great."

As for his contact with Oklahoma it's one Cornwell hopes to see continue to grow.

"We haven't had much but I'm going to get in touch here (with Sooners coach Josh Heupel). I really want to start talking with them and get that recruiting going because they're on a roll the way they throw it around and the way they are playing they're a dangerous team they've got the record to make it all the way."

"We actually had tickets to Kansas-Oklahoma and we just had to split hairs," explained Cornwell. "It was either sit in the stands or do a recruiting trip so a recruiting trip was better in our minds."

Jones (6-2, 3-1) win at Tuttle (7-1,3-1) snapped the Tigers seven game District 3A-1 win streak.
