Video: Lucas scores 29 in Green and White Game

EAST LANSING - When freshman point guard Kalin Lucas signed with Michigan State he was supposed to be the set up man for fellow freshmen Chris Allen and Durrell Summers. But Lucas was the primary scorer of that trio during Sunday's Green and White basketball scrimmage.

Lucas led all scorers with 27 points and shot a sizzling 13 of 16 from the floor in the scrimmage. The freshman from Detroit, like nine other members of the Spartan basketball team, split time between the Green team and the White Team. Lucas also proved a capable distributor during scrimmage, piling up 9 assists over the course of the four 10-minute quarters.

"Kalin has been very good at pushing the ball up the floor," said assistant coachDwayne Stephens of Lucas' performance through a week and a half of practices. "Obviously with our depth we are going to play a little bit faster pace and Kalin is one of those kids that has that extra gear and when he kicks it in he is like a jet out there. He has been playing well, he really has. He struggle the first couple of practices, but once he figured out what coach wants from him and what we are looking for he started to catch on and pick things up. He has probably been our most consistent freshman to this point."

Allen finished with 21 points. The freshman from Atlanta hit some deep 3-pointers and also showcased his versatility by attacking the rim when given the opportunity.

After leading all Spartans in scoring on Midnight Madness Summers managed just five points during the Green and White game.
