Jones enjoys visit to Capstone
Memphis offensive tackle Barrett Jones is among the Alabama Crimson Tide's top remaining prospects for the 2008 class and the 6-foot-5, 271-pound lineman was in Tuscaloosa over the weekend for an unofficial visit to the Tide's big game against LSU.
"I've been to a lot of Alabama games but this weekend's game was the loudest by far that I've ever heard it. When Keith Brown caught the touchdown in the 3rd and when Javier took back the punt it was absolutely crazy. All the fans and most of the recruits were going nuts. It was a great game," Jones said. "The fans were awesome before and after the game also. The student section was screaming my name and asking me all kinds of questions. They knew who I was and told me to come to Alabama."
Jones spoke with Saban and several of the Tide assistant coaches after the game and was impressed with the Tide coaching staff and their plans for the future.
"The game went back and forth and I think it's confirmation that Coach Saban has Alabama headed in the right direction. The program has come a long way and he hasn't been there very long. But the players and fans are buying into it and he's going to win at Alabama," Jones said. "I didn't get a chance to talk to him but a few minutes because he was so busy but he told me he's going to recruit, get his players there and win big. I talked to Coach (Joe) Pendry and (Kevin) Steele also. They were great and made sure I was having a good time."
The Crimson Tide remain in good standing with Jones, the nation's No. 9 offensive tackle prospect, but the senior is still taking his time with his college decision.
"I'm still looking at the same schools. I am weighing my options and going to do what is best for me on and off the football field," Jones said. "All of the schools I am looking at are great programs. I can't go wrong but I'll choose the one where I feel I fit in the best."
