Kevin Wilson talks Bedlam victory

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma offense never took it's foot off the gas pedal during their 47-41 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday night. After the game Kevin Wilson talked about the concerted effort to keep pressing for points even when it looked like the Sooners had the game in the bag.

Coach you took the entire game to get it done...
Yeah. They're awfully good and they were gonna score. We're supposedly not a good fourth quarter team and we talked about finishing the season and finishing the game and we didn't play a good third quarter but it was a really good job. The defense played great all night and it was great to make a couple of big plays at the end.

How tough of a call was it on the play to Hanna because it would have been good to run clock but at the same time you obviously felt that shot was there?
Yeah. We kind of ran a similar look as the play before and we ran the ball and got a couple of yards and we could have ran it again but they were going to take the timeout and it was going to be third down. To get the third down or unless they got out of gaps or played poor we were going to have to throw to get it, we thought.

I'm glad they executed. Really, the key thing was they were blitzing off the backside and our backside right guard and right tackle picked up the blitz and made it easy.

How many times can you recall having so many third and longs and being able to get it done?
Guys executed well and we thought we were close the one time when we kicked a field goal and we came up a little short coming in. We threw a pick on third-and-long and kind of haunted ourselves. Landry battled and hung in there and protection was one of those things. Protection was okay.

Can you talk about the big plays in the fourth quarter?
The one before, we actually took a double move there to Ryan down the middle and he defended it and didn't let it be a pick. We took a shot there and then on third-and-long we kind of had just a basic play in the middle where Ryan's coming in the middle and they kind of bracketed and covered him and kind of left Cam (Kenney) backside one-on-one and the protection was good. We had over 100 snaps and I think they got a little tired in the fourth quarter and maybe didn't rush as good as they did earlier and I think that kind of helped us. The protection was good and they kind of got sucked in on Ryan. It was a good throw and a great play for Cam.

The last one was we just needed a first down and I actually thought he was going to throw to the fullback in the flat but the corner took the bait and came up and (Landry) went over the top.

I told James (Hanna) two weeks ago, his physical skills in the weight room are higher than Jermaine (Gresham's) in every category. I said, 'When are you going to start playing like Jermaine?' He made a couple of good plays tonight and that was good to see.

Can you talk about the first half and both quarterbacks were struggling, Landry has three picks, but then he comes back and what that means for his growth and what that means for this offense?
It was good. I thought he did it at A&M when we were struggling and that one pick was a phenomenal play. I know we've got to throw it 15 rows out of bounds, but that one pick from their DB was an unbelievable play on a sprint pass. One was maybe not a good call and a little late on a touchdown where he threw it late. Maybe I put him in a bad call.

At halftime we thought we had a bunch of plays in the first half and I was disappointed we didn't execute in the opening drive of the third quarter better. But in the fourth quarter my thought was that we were looking at killing the clock and we've got to score because they're going to score. We didn't even have a mindset of running the clock out. We needed to score. I think in some of the games this year where we've struggled, we've been up and we've taken the air out of ourselves. When you're up a little bit we knew they were going to score and we needed to stay really aggressive and our players did a great job.
