Brown favoring three

Earlier this month, Florence (Ala.) High School's Beniquez Brown was busy traveling to several camps across the Southeast region. But of late, the 2012 athlete prospect has been focused more on his upcoming senior season.

"I've just been mainly working out with our team," said the 6-foot-2 and 210-pound Brown. "I don't want to miss any team workouts. We have to get our chemistry down and we are going for a state championship for our senior year.

"Since Mississippi State's camp, I have only gone to visit Florida. But I am hitting the road next month to see some schools. I am going to Georgia on July 15th, then Alabama on July 18th and then I am going back to Mississippi State for the Big Dawg Camp on July 22nd."

Brown owns offers from the likes of MSU, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Vanderbilt among others. He said he stays in contact with most of the SEC schools and noted of his current Top 3.

"Things have been going good with Mississippi State, Alabama and Florida and those are my Top 3," said Brown. "I like Coach Geoff Collins at Mississippi State and Coach Dan Mullen. I have a good relationship with all of their coaches."

Brown noted he is being recruited for different positions by different schools. Over the past two years, Brown has combined to rush for 2,158 yards and 32 touchdowns while collecting 214 tackles.

Of that group, Brown said it was hard to name a leader for now.

"I am really not any closer to a decision because I don't know which way to go," said Brown. "I enjoy all the places I've been to and I am wide open right now. I said that if I didn't commit before my senior year then I would probably wait until close to signing day.

"And Alabama is recruiting me as a safety, Florida as a linebacker and Mississippi State as a running back. It doesn't matter to me where I play and I will play anywhere on the field."

When Brown makes the return trip to Starkville, he will do so with fellow teammate and cousin Kivon Coman. He said the two have talked about going to the same school but added it depends on the situation.

"We've talked about wanting to play together in college," said Brown. "But you never know and Kivon may like a school more or like a different school and we may have to go to different programs. But right now we plan on sticking together."

And when decision time comes for Brown, he has several things that will factor into that choice.

"The top thing I am looking at is academics and I want to major in sports medicine," said Brown. "Then I am looking at my relationship with the coaches and how hard that program works. I am seeing if I work hard, what program I could have a good chance at playing early. And also, I am looking at what program has the best strength and training staff that could help me recover quickly and get back on the field if I get hurt."
