Sights and Sounds from historic Allen Fieldhouse
The wood vibrated beneath your feet like a low tremor. It was the byproduct of a raucous crowd that was ready and raring for 40 minutes high-stakes basketball.
Minutes into the game, the student section was on its feet. They came wearing KU jerseys, taunted with homemade signs and flaunted the No. 5 team in the country.
The students cheered on their Jayhawks in one breath and jeered the opposing team and officials with every other.
SIGHTS AND SOUNDS: BIG MONDAY AT THE PHOG
On Monday night, the Sooners had the task of trying to delay Kansas clinching a share of its 10th straight Big 12 regular season title. Though Oklahoma fought back from a 15-4 deficit, and though senior Cameron Clark scored 18 points and sophomore Buddy Hield scored 16, the Sooners fell short.
They were overcome by a Kansas team boasting at least two future NBA first round draft picks. They were overcome by the Phog.
"You are playing against one of the best teams in the country, and they have a lot of weapons," said Sooner coach Lon Kruger.
When the buzzer sounded, the scoreboard showed the Jayhawks had beaten Oklahoma 83-75 in a game KU won and OU lost in the final minutes of each half. In the last six minutes of the game, the Jayhawks outscored OU 18-10.
Strong finishes win Big 12 games. Strong finishes win Big 12 titles.
