Spring Game: Instant Analysis

The scoring system is a little funky. When a team scores with a quarterback, the color of his number will determine whether the red or the white team scores.

* We've been told Trevor Knight will not play much today.

* Frank Shannon is once again nowhere to be found.

* Some players are dressed out that aren't expected to play like Julian Wilson.

* Trevor Knight and Baker Mayfield have GoPro cameras on their helmets.

* Durron Neal was wearing a knee brace but nothing on his ankle.

* Plenty of ex-players on the sidelines. Trent Williams spent a lot of time talking with Jerry Schmidt. Phil Loadholt, Bronson Irwin, Eric Mensik.

* Will Sunderland didn't come down with the rest of the recruits/commits. He came out of the tunnel later like he'd been getting some special attention.

* Bob Stoops is addressing the crowd. More Sugar Bowl celebration. They just brought the Sugar Bowl Trophy out to the middle of the field.

* Stoops is quite the public speaker these days.

* Is anyone counting how many times the Sugar Bowl trophy is shown on TV today? They have already showed it once so far today. It will spend the rest of the game on the field.

OFFENSE WITH TREVOR KNIGHT ON THE FIELD

* Quentin Hayes breaks up Knight's first pass to Dimtri Flowers.

* Jordan Evans knocks down Knight's second pass.

* Knight's third pass nearly intercepted by Dominique Alexander. Should have been intercepted.

OFFENSE TAKES OVER WITH CODY THOMAS AT QB

* Two runs by Keith Ford.

* Charles Walker at defensive end with the number two defense. Davonte Bond in with the twos.

* Thomas throws incomplete on third down. Two straight three and outs.

OFFENSE 1 V 1 WITH TREVOR KNIGHT

* Daryl Williams, Tony Feo, Darlington, SAvage and St. John are the starting OL.

* Trevor Knight has another pass broken up. This time by Zack Sanchez.

* Knight hits Dimitri Flowers for a first down and the first completion of the day.

* Knight sacked by Charles Tapper on the next play. Tapper blew by Josiah St. John to get the sack. 2nd-and-17.

* Jordan Evans just blew up KJ Young and Jordan Wade came up with the interception

OFFENSE 2 VS DEFENSE 2 CODY THOMAS AT QB

* Just some notes KJ Young is running with the 1s at WR.

* Daniel Brooks with the first big run of the day. Ball down to the three yard line.

* Cody Thomas to Taylor McNamara for the first touchdown of the day. Give the White team six points.

WHITE 7 RED 0

OFFENSE 1 VS DEFENSE 1 WITH TREVOR KNIGHT

* Knight hits Dimitri Flowers right down the seam for a nice gain to the 45-yard line

* Ford in at running back. Still waiting on that big run from Alex Ross today.

* Ford with a nice run. There could be 40,000 people here.

* Knight goes for a long ball down the middle but thrown behind the receiver. Quentin Hayes should have had the pick.

* Hunnicutt nails a 52-yard field goal.

WHITE 7 RED 3

OFFENSE 2 VS DEFENSE 2 WITH BAKER MAYFIELD AT QUARTERBACK

* Curious they would put Mayfield in the game before Hansen. Doesn't really make much sense.

* The live band has started playing all of a sudden for the first time.

* Bob Stoops was interviewed inside the stadium before this possession. He awkwardly grabbed the microphone as Jessica Coody was holding it.

* Mayfield shows some nice mobility on a improvised run.

* Isaac Ijalana with his first catch of the day from Mayfield. Mayfield finding nice seams in the defense. He'd be the No. 2 QB if he were eligible. I don't really have any doubts about that. Kid can play.

* Taylor McNamara with a second touchdown grab. This time from Baker Mayfield.

* It looks like the plan is to play Mayfield as the White team backup while Hansen will be the Red team backup.

RED 3 WHITE 14

TREVOR KNIGHT BACK OUT AT QB

* Trevor Knight goes three and out again.

HANSEN IN AT QB

* he's wearing a red number, so we were told if he scores the red team gets points. But the White team is supposed to have the ball right now.

* Hansen throws a strike to Jordan Smallwood. Hansen then picks up a first down with his legs.

* Hansen completes to Austin Bennett. Hansen has his team down to the 20-yard line.

* Whatever team this is????

* Hansen makes a beautiful pass to Austin Bennett in the corner of the endzone for a TD.

RED 10 WHITE 14

* That whole quarterback number color thing we were told is bullcrap.

* Trevor Knight is still playing. Seems like he would have been done already if he hadn't played so poorly today.

* Ahmad Thomas with a big-time tackle on Derrick Woods. It was a swing pass that Thomas tracked down.

* Reverse pass from Derrick Woods to Dimitri Flowers. Flowers had to dive to catch it.

* Geneo Grissom is down on the field. Trainers are looking at his left knee.

* Grissom gets up and walks slowly to the locker room. His day is done.

* Jordan Evans shoots through the line and tackles Keith Ford for a loss.

* 47-yard FG for Michael Hunnicutt.

RED 13 WHITE 14

IT'S HALFTIME

* Players aren't going into the locker room. This second half will probably go very, very fast.

* So far stars of the day: Michael Hunnicutt, Baker Mayfield, Taylor McNamara, Justice Hansen, Dimitri Flowers, SoonerVision for not interviewing women's basketball players.

* Players are just taking a knee. An ode to the Sugar Bowl is playing on the big screen.

* I have noticed Taylor McNamara being flexed out some today. That's a good sign for the TEs in the future.

* OK. Best thing OU has ever done. The QBs threw frisbees to dogs at halftime. Justice Hansen with the only successful frisbee toss that was caught.

* Frisbee show is over. Should be back to football shortly.

TREVOR KNIGHT BACK OUT AT QB

* And he's sacked.

* And he sacked again.

* And pass batted down. 3-and-out for Trevor.

BAKER MAYFIELD COMING OUT AT QB WITH 2 VS 2

* Mayfield with another huge pass completion. This time to Austin Bennett.

* This is a running clock. This will end quickly.

* Mayfield hits Smallwood for a TD. It was a back shoulder throw and Smallwood came back to the ball. Stanvon Taylor was defending. Nice connection between Smallwood and Mayfield.

WHITE 13 RED 21

* Clock has stopped between possessions.

CODY THOMAS SET TO COME OUT WITH THE RED OFFENSE FOR THE FIRST TIME. LOOKS LIKE KNIGHT'S DAY MIGHT BE DONE

* Thomas goes back shoulder and hits Derrick Woods. Dakota Austin defending on the play.

* Keith Ford with a nice run. He's been steady and had some nice runs that can move the chains, but nothing too exciting.

* Cody Thomas looks very poised in the pocket. Just a distributor of the football. Some nice throws down the field. Some quick throws here and there. I haven't seen a ton of mobility out of him today though. I think I'd put him fourth on the list of most mobile QBs on the roster.

HANSEN BACK AT QB WITH THE 2S

* Hansen gets to third down and long and Bond blows him up on a sack.

FOURTH QUARTER

* Thomas back out at QB he just reminds me of Jason White in teh way he moves.

* Dimitri Flowers is down.

* Flowers is down and they are looking at his left knee it appears.

* Flowers up walking on his own but slowly. Looks like a replay of Geneo Grissom leaving the field.

* Trainers continue to examine Flowers' knee. Blake Bell and Baker Mayfield are over there now.

* Obo picks off a bobbled pass by Daniel Brooks and returns it to the 2-yard line.

* TD.

* It's time to head down to the field. Full coverage coming. I just argued for 5 minutes with Berry Tramel about which team was red and which was white.

RED 13 WHITE 28
