Sooners to Play Host to Cali Corner

Untitled Document

For all of the reasons that three-star defensive back Ykili Ross could take an interest in the Sooners, his reasoning sounds like something off the side of one of Oklahoma's mailers.

"They have won every one on the BCS bowl games ever," said the class of 2015 Riverside (Calif.) Poly cornerback, Ross.

That is what stuck out to the 6-foot-1, 183-pound Ross about the University of Oklahoma. Beyond that, their winning tradition is why he wants to learn more about them.

"I don't know much about the state or program, but I wouldn't mind finding out more." Ross, the state of California's No. 73 ranked prospect that currently has fourteen offers and is considering all of them, said.

So while the Sooners are searching for a guy to start opposite of returning sophomore starter Zack Sanchez this spring, they are searching for the future of their already relatively young secondary.

Assistant Defensive Coordinator, Tim Kish reached out to Ross first about his offer from Oklahoma and now, Ross says, that Mike Stoops and himself "talk every day."

With plenty of early interest coming in, Ross says the talk from the Sooners has him planning a visit to Norman sometime this fall. He is confident he will also take official visits to Notre Dame and Washington as well as unofficial visits to more regional schools like USC and Arizona State.

So what is this big defensive back looking for when he decides where to attend school in the future?

"I like to see how the coaches interact with their players. I also like to see how well the players get along with each other. I want to see how I feel when I visit. If I will fit in with the current players and how well I get along with the coaches," he admitted.

In one word, community.

Ross is looking for a place to feel at home and to help them win. Ross says he is not planning an early decision by any means, however. He wants to enjoy the entire process and take it all in.

"I'm not going to say that I am going to commit on signing day or a bowl game or anything like that. I just want to do it whenever the time is right for me."
