SoonerScoop.com's Class of 2015 Oklahoma WAR BOARD

    Latest News

    QUARTERBACK
    Position Coach: Josh Heupel
    Offers: 3
    Uncommitted: 2
    Rivals100 Targets: 1
    State of Focus: Texas

    2015 Returnees: 3

    Predicted No. of Signees: 1

    2015 Commitments: 0

    2016 Offers: 0

    Current Status: Strong

    Top Target: Torrance Gibson

    All Targets

The Skinny: Unlike 2014 Oklahoma doesn't seem to have a ready made situation waiting to work itself out at this position. Their two current uncommitted offers Gibson and Kyler Murray are both considerable climbs. For Gibson it's going to be about distance and Oklahoma winning out over numerous SEC programs far closer to home. With Murray can Oklahoma overcome Texas A&M; where his father played? It's all even more interesting to see what the players think of Trevor Knight and how they may fit into Oklahoma's plans and just how quickly they could truly push for playing time. Gibson's recent visit to Norman seems to have made Oklahoma a possibility though it seems a longshot with most seeing Ohio State, Tennessee, and Auburn as his probable destination.

    RUNNING BACK
    Position Coach: Cale Gundy
    Offers: 8
    Uncommitted: 7
    Rivals100 Targets: 5
    State of Focus: Texas

    2015 Returnees: 7

    Predicted No. of Signees: 2

    2015 Commitments: 0

    2016 Offers: 0

    Current Status: Strong

    Top Target: Soso Jamabo

    All Targets

The Skinny: Though Oklahoma lost, arguably, it's top target at running back in McKinney, Texas star Ronald Jones the good news is that the Sooners make an annual habit - under the guidance of Gundy - of reeling in elite national backs. As such there should be no reason to feel things are amiss here particularly with the Sooners seeming to be in very good shape for another Rivals100 running back, Jamabo. It will be interesting to see if the Sooners have to wait a while, as they did with 2014 5-star Joe Mixon, but regardless this class seems likely to add another top back. If not, it may be due to Mixon - or another young back - emerging early in the season.

    WIDE RECEIVER
    Position Coach: Jay Norvell
    Offers: 13
    Uncommitted: 9
    Rivals100 Targets: 5
    State of Focus: Texas

    2015 Returnees: 11

    Predicted No. of Signees: 2

    2015 Commitments: 0

    2016 Offers: 1

    Current Status: Strong

    Top Target: Alex Ofodile

    All Targets

The Skinny: For a while it really felt as though Oklahoma was on the outside looking in for Ofodile but after a trip last week he moved up his decision timeline and seems to be giving the Sooners a very, very real look. The Sooners are also in good standing with players like DeSean Holmes, Keke Coutee, Ryan Newsome, and Stanley Norman. It may take a while to come together but much like running back there is ample evidence to believe this unit comes together as it does just about every year.

    TIGHT END
    Position Coach: Jay Boulware
    Offers: 6
    Uncommitted: 4
    Rivals100 Targets: 0
    State of Focus: Arkansas

    2015 Returnees: 3

    Predicted No. of Signees: 1

    2015 Commitments: 0

    2016 Offers: 1

    Current Status: Uncertain

    Top Target: Hale Hentges

    All Targets

The Skinny: This position, as the offer list stands now, will come down to Oklahoma beating out some schools closer to home for some of it's top targets. For Hentges can Oklahoma beat Missouri? For Natural State offers Will Gragg and C.J. O'Grady can Oklahoma best the Razorbacks - who've got a tight end commitment from within Oklahoma's borders? Finally can the Sooners try and pull another SEC area surprise with a commitment from Jackson Harris? So far the Volunteers haven't offered Harris could that leave the door open for Oklahoma or someone else? It would seem so but if we're being realistic none of these guys has the feel of a future Sooner right now.

    OFFENSIVE TACKLE
    Position Coach: Bill Bedenbaugh
    Offers: 12

    2015 Returnees: 7

    2015 Commitments: 1

    2016 Offers: 2

    Current Status: Uncertain

    Top Target: Conner Dyer

    All Targets

The Skinny: Oklahoma's class of 2014 closed strong at offensive tackle and it's given Oklahoma a bit of time to be more patient with it's 2015 recruiting and offer list. However, the Sooners are already on the board with the commitment of Bobby Evans and are in strong shape with players like Dyer, Andre James, Keaton Sutherland and also have a remote chance at an elite Florida standout Martez Ivey - from the same school as Sooners starting center Ty Darlington.

    INTERIOR OFFENSIVE LINE
    Position Coach: Bill Bedenbaugh

    2015 Returnees: 6

    2015 Commitments: 0

    2016 Offers: 1

    Current Status: Solid

    Top Target: Jalin Barnett

    All Targets

The Skinny: The recent loss of Josh Wariboko certainly hurts but it's not a race that is completely run yet as much will depend on where Oklahoma, and other programs, fall with his brother Max Wariboko. The good news for Oklahoma is that the Big 12 region is absolutely loaded with quality offensive line targets including fellow in-state Rivals100 member, Barnett. The Sooners have taken a hit but the chance is there to get back up and find more talent capable of helping them.

    DEFENSIVE END
    Position Coach: Jerry Montgomery
    Offers: 10
    Uncommitted: 8
    Rivals100 Targets: 4

    2015 Returnees: 7

    Predicted No. of Signees: 2

    2015 Commitments: 0

    2016 Offers: 3

    Current Status: Strong

    Top Target: Kahlil McKenzie

    All Targets

The Skinny: It's taking some getting used to to decipher just what defensive linemen Oklahoma see as defensive ends and which will slide inside at the nose tackle position. However, as time goes on it's becoming more clear that Oklahoma will be putting plenty of size at defensive end with the likes of McKenzie, long-time commitment Du'Vonta Lampkin and several other talented big bodies likely to play outside. Keep an eye on Darrion Daniels and Breiden Fehoko as a pair of Oklahoma's most highly regarded prospects as well. Even though Fehoko pledged to Texas Tech in mid-May he says he'll visit Norman.

    2016 Offers: 1

    Current Status: Strong

    Top Target: Marquise Overton

    All Targets

The Skinny: Oklahoma's defensive tackle recruiting is an interesting thing where, again, it must be sorted out what type of player Oklahoma has identified as their 'prototype'. With one commitment already in hand from Overton the Sooners are continuing to eye some of the nation's best in Tim Settle, who visited for the Red-White game and seemed to like things. Also Jacob Daniel but more offers definitely seem possible. Also, could one of the defensive end targets end up sliding inside to tackle?

    OUTSIDE LINEBACKER
    Position Coach: Tim Kish

    2016 Offers: 3

    Current Status: Solid

    Top Target: Cameron Townsend

    All Targets

The Skinny: In what is becoming a broken record the outside linebacker position is a bit debateable as some targets could end up at defensive end while a few others could end up at inside linebacker. The question has become is outside linebacker going to look more like Eric Striker or Devante Bond. Either way, there is no question that the position has changed somewhat. A few to keep a real eye on are Cassius Peat, Manny Bowen, and Bo Wallace.

    2016 Offers: 1

    Current Status: Fair

    Top Target: Justin Hilliard

    All Targets

The Skinny: Tons of talent has been offered at inside linebacker - again if you feel you know where the offers lie - and Oklahoma isn't, perhaps, the favorite for any of them but is in the chase for almost all of them. It was just last year that the Sooners landed a four-star Ohio talent in offensive lineman Alex Dalton and hope that Hilliard can continue that trend. Aside from him keep an eye on players like Malik Jefferson and Ricky Deberry who both seem very likely to show up in Norman at some point in the 2015 recruiting cycle..

    2016 Offers: 1

    Current Status: Stable

    Top Target: Kris Boyd

    All Targets

The Skinny: Oklahoma is working the country to try and find some help at cornerback and has several strong leads with Boyd, Jaylon Lane, Isaiah Langley, Dechaun Holiday, P.J. Mbanasor, and Ykili Ross all expressing very real interest in the Sooners. In the case of Lane, Boyd, Holiday, Mbanasor, and Ross they seem near perfect fits for what the Stoops brothers like to do with their corners.

    Top Target: Will Sunderland

    All Targets

The Skinny: The safety position seems as safe a bet to end strongly as any in this class with the potential commitment of Sunderland seeming a very likely scenario. Aside from him, and Oklahoma's most recent commitment, Jamile Johnson, the Sooners seem to have a lot of focus on Waco Midway standout Kahlil Haughton.

    Current Status: Stable

    Top Target: Austin Seibert

    All Targets

The Skinny: Oklahoma brought in a kicker to each of it's two junior days and seems dead set on offering a prospect to replace their one departing senior on special teams; potential All-American Michael Hunnicutt. It seemed as though the Sooners might go after more closely located kicker, Drew Galitz but went after Seibert instead. The kicker already is nearing double-digit offers - a true rarity at his position - and after an in person evaluation from Boulware picked up his Sooner offer after visiting Norman back on Feb. 1.

    COMMITMENTS:

NOTE: This is not Oklahoma's actual board, it is merely an educated opinion on the comings and goings of Oklahoma's recruiting.
