Barretts Decision is Down the Homestretch










Over the last week or so, offensive line coach, Bill Bedenbaugh has already added the two offensive line commitments to the 2015 class in offensive guard, Josh Wariboko and offensive tackle, Bobby Evans. At this point that is one more than he has committed for the offensive line in the 2014 class with Alex Dalton, a three-star offensive guard being his lone pledge so far.

Soon, Bedenbaugh is hoping to add an offensive tackle to this year's class. That hope currently seems to center on Dallas Skyline's Ty Barrett announces his decision on August 3.

Where everything stands at this point is the 6-foot-4 and 309-pound prospect has visited four out of his top five schools already in Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech but has one visit left to take to Ole Miss later this month. It is a trip he has been looking forward to taking for some time.

"I've been wanting to get down to Ole Miss for a long time now," Barrett said. "It's exciting to finally get down there and be able to see how the campus looks, talk to (head) coach (Hugh) Freeze and get acquainted with the coaches and the players. So, I just want to see how it is."

Barrett states that he and Bedenbaugh have remained in constant contact and though he won't be making a return trip to Norman before he decides, it sounds like he has seen all he's needed to on the numerous trips he has taken to Oklahoma before.

"It's been a while but I have been up there a good probably five times," he stated.

With the three-star tackle having narrowed it down to his top five remaining schools that he will choose from, like usual we got in contact and asked him to voice the things about each school that stands out to him.

Oklahoma - "It's a great tradition, great program. Coach Bob Stoops is one of the best coaches out there. Him and coach Bedenbaugh together, that's a deadly combination. And you know, coach (Josh) Heupel, he's a good coach. So, the whole coaching staff is great up there, it's a great tradition and Oklahoma is always known for winning championships," he explained.

TCU - "You have one of the best coaches out there, coach (Gary) Patterson and coach (Eddie) Williamson, the offensive line coach. He's not really going anywhere so it's a great opportunity to go there. You know, coach (Curtis) Luper and I know some kids already on the team so that would be a great opportunity to go there."

Oklahoma State - "Coach (Joe) Wickline, he probably is the best offensive line coach out there. He actually during the halftime of their spring game, that was my first time ever visiting down there, he took me up to his office at halftime and talk to me for the whole halftime. That was a big thing you know, he took his time out to take me away from the game, take me up stairs and talk to me and all that."

Texas Tech - "That's probably one of the most energetic, young, up and coming coaching staffs out there. With coach (Kliff) Kingsbury, last year he put Luke Joeckel in the draft. He's had Jake Matthews, so he's known for making offensive tackles big in his offense and that's a big deal to me. And they got one of my brothers actually committed there right now in Derrick Dixon. So, it's a great opportunity to play with him again."

Ole Miss - "They had the best recruiting class last year and they got a good recruiting class coming in. My quarterback (Devante Kincade) from last year he goes there now and he does his little recruiting on the side. It's a great school. I've talked to Laremy Tunsil and Robert Nkemdiche, I've talked to both of them and they were telling me about the program and how I would fit in. And it wouldn't be bad to play next to Laremy Tunsil. So, it's a good opportunity to play at each one of them," he said.

Though he already has his announcement date and ceremony set up for August 3, when it come to the very thing he is looking for in a program, it sounds like he is sending a message to the remaining schools he is considering.

" Just keep recruiting me," Barrett replied. "Some schools they will probably start slacking off towards the end if they don't think that they are going to get me. Just keep recruiting me all the way through and whenever I pull the trigger it better be the best opportunity for me. All the schools that I have, all the offers that I have, they were all great opportunities for me and great coaching staffs. I liked the whole recruiting process you know, everything about it."

In a little less than a month Barrett's commitment will be out of the way and he can then turn all of his focus to his upcoming senior year at Skyline. Each year the Raiders are one of the more talented teams in the state of Texas as well as in the country and 2013 will be no different.

"I really want to win a state championship this year. That's the main goal right now but that's the main goal for every high school and I think we have a legitimate chance to win it. Winning a state championship means all my teammates are getting better. I'm really a team guy and I really want to see my team grow, my teammates get offers and stuff like that. I'm really ready to see my team grow as a whole unit," he stated.
