Backfield Boom for 2019 Sooners

With Oklahoma's 2018 class only having a handful of players still on the board it's time to start previewing the 2019 class and what things could look like. And with quarterback being a completed pursuit, thanks to the early commitment of Spencer Rattler, SoonerScoop.com decided to include the running backs with the Sooners pursuit there getting even more interesting on Tuesday evening with the offer to Marcus Major.

The players listed are far from the only Oklahoma offers at their position but are the guys that the Scoop staff feels are where the team is currently focused.

Returning Starters: Kyler Murray (1 game)

Returning Players: 2

2018 Signees: Tanner Mordecai

Expected 2019 Signees: 1

2019 Commitment: Spencer Rattler

The Situation: Rattler committed to the Sooners on June 27, 2017 and has remained steadfast with Oklahoma ever since. In fact he has been a very active recruiter for the Sooners 2019 group. Rattler is the most highly-rated quarterback commitment that Oklahoma has landed since Rhett Bomar in 2005 and his blend of arm talent and playmaking ability may remind many Sooners of the guy who just collected some serious hardware in New York City.

So in short? Oklahoma is all done and couldn't be happier with what they have.

Running Back

Returning Starters: Rodney Anderson (7 games), Trey Sermon (3 games)

Returning Players: 4

2018 Signees: T.J. Pledger

Expected 2019 Signees: 2

2019 Commitment: Isaiah Spiller

The Situation: The trio couldn't come from more different situations. With Sanders, he is one of the nation's most highly sought after backs, from the same program that produced two of Oklahoma's most highly-rated 2018 signees, including Pledger, and a guy that has so far been receptive to the Sooners. Spiller is the son of a former Texas A&M player and has been well known since early in his career in North Houston. Major hasn't had any attention prior to just a few weeks ago but has seen his recruiting explode in the past few days with an Oklahoma offer coming on Tuesday night. Major was in Norman last weekend definitely seems interested in the Sooners.

Oklahoma looks likely to try and add a back to Spiller's commitment, thanks in no small part to the departure of Tavion Thomas from the 2018 class.

In the case of Sanders Oklahoma will have to fight off every major program in the country and the same could be in the not too distant future for Major himself. However, one would have to like the chances for the in-state star a bit better.
