Commit Video Breakdown: Starrland Baldwin

Modern corners can often feel specialized.

Taller, bigger players are often relegated as press corners.

Smaller, quicker prospects are more likely to be seen as zone corners facing the quarterback.

Oklahoma got themselves a corner who can do both with Thursday's commitment from 2018 Houston (Texas) Cypress Falls cornerback Starrland Baldwin.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound No. 47 ranked player in Texas has the athleticism and ball-skills to keep his eyes in the backfield, while still possessing the size to be physical around the line of scrimmage.

Fighting through blocks and making hits is clearly something that Baldwin not only takes pride in, but he genuinely seems to enjoy contact - a great sign for someone as athletic and explosive as the nation's No. 33 cornerback.

Perhaps it's as simple as the similarities in their smooth punt return styles, but I can't help but be reminded of former Sooner defensive back Antonio Perkins in Baldwin's game.

Like Perkins, Baldwin can be flexible, quick, and active in his lower body while still maintaining his balance and staying under control. That calmness translates when Baldwin is tracking the football at corner, as he's able to consistently keep position on receivers and move his feet with his eyes fixated on the throw.

Defensive back coaches will take corners with those types of instincts on the field any day and Kerry Cooks appears to have found another fluid and physical corner with such an awareness to join his arsenal in Norman.
