Junior quarterback Trevor Knight has been granted a full release from the University of Oklahoma by head coach Bob Stoops, SoonerScoop.com has learned through multiple sources.

Knight, who played in six games during the 2015 regular season, is expected to graduate this semester, which will free him up to transfer to another school this spring and become immediately eligible for the 2016 season.

Sources close to Knight indicate he has spoken with several potential transfer destinations since being granted his release by the University of Oklahoma, including Kansas State University.

Stoops will not block Knight from transferring within the Big 12 Conference according to multiple sources.

That plays as an ironic twist as Knight lost his starting quarterback job to walk-on transfer Baker Mayfield, who lost two seasons of eligibility after Texas Tech blocked his transfer within the conference, even though Mayfield was not on scholarship at the time of his transfer.

Sources confirmed to SoonerScoop.com this afternoon that Knight's recent Twitter activity does indicate the schools he has spoken with since being granted his release. Along with the Wildcats, Knight has spoken with Georgia, Oregon and Southern Methodist.

Those same sources indicated Knight's list of potential suitors is expected to grow once the OU staff returns from recruiting trips throughout the country.

Knight, voted a team captain by his teammates before the start of the 2015 season, has completed 22-of-40 passes for 305 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions this season.

His most notable contribution in 2015 came against TCU when Baker Mayfield missed the second half due to a concussion.

Knight entered the game with the Sooners leading 23-7 at the start of the second half. He completed 5-of-16 passes for 76 yards. Knight was also picked off during the second half as Oklahoma held on to win 30-29 after safety Steven Parker batted down a two-point conversion pass that would have won the game for the Horned Frogs.

Knight certainly has shown enough in his time at Oklahoma to warrant the attention of high profile programs.

Heading into his sophomore season, Knight was considered a preseason Heisman Trophy Award candidate after torching Alabama in the previous season in the Sugar Bowl.

Knight completed 32-of-44 passes for 348 yards and 4 touchdowns that night as the Sooners pulled off one of the biggest bowl wins of the Bob Stoops era defeating the Crimson Tide 45-31.

Knight suffered a serious injury the following season against Baylor when he was partially paralyzed after a hit. Knight suffered what is known as transient quadraplegia following the hit and sat out the final three regular season games in 2014.

Knight would return for the Russell Athletic Bowl to face Clemson, but the offense that started faltering against Baylor continued it's downward spiral as the Sooners suffered a 40-6 beatdown to the Tigers.

Oklahoma finished the 2014 season 8-5. It would be the last game Knight would start for the Sooners at quarterback.

Knight will reportedly take his time to make his decision as he doesn't want to be a distraction to the team as they prepare for the College Football Playoff semifinal against Clemson Dec. 31. Sources close to Knight also say he hasn't completely ruled out a return to OU even though he has a full release.
