Fun Facts: Starrland Baldwin

- Starrland Baldwin would join OU defensive lineman from 1988-92, James Baldwin, as the only Baldwins in school history.

- He would be the first Sooner ever named Starrland, though.

- Baldwin is the 7th commitment for Oklahoma in the class of 2018, three behind 2017’s pace of 10 commitments at this same time a year ago.

- Baldwin joins Jordon Austin as the second cornerback commitment in the 2018 class from the state of Texas. Oklahoma signed just one cornerback from the state in the previous two classes (Parrish Cobb).

- First commitment for the Sooners from the Houston area in 2018. They signed two in the 2017 class (Cedarian Lamb and Kenneth Murray).

- The last time Oklahoma signed more than two prospects from the Houston area was in 2013 when Matthew Romar, Christian Daimler, Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Austin Bennett, Matt Dimon, and Keith Ford all came up to Norman.

- Current Sooner defensive tackle Du’Vonta Lampkin is a graduate of Cypress Falls High School.

- Lampkin finished as the No. 48 player in Texas in 2015. Baldwin is currently ranked as the No. 47 prospect in the state.

- Baldwin is the No. 5 ranked CB in the state of Texas and is currently the highest rated corner in the state currently committed.

- Baldwin is listed at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds. Oklahoma hasn’t signed a cornerback under 168 pounds since the class of 2013 (Dakota Austin and Stanvon Taylor).

- From 2011-2014, Oklahoma did not sign a cornerback ranked higher than 45 at his position. They signed four in the previous two classes in 2016 and 2017. Baldwin is currently the No. 33 ranked corner in 2018.

- Former Miami Dolphins first round pick and current Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis was Rivals.com’s No. 33 ranked cornerback in 2006 when he signed with Illinois out of Washington (D.C.) Dunbar high school.
