Lott Makes it Official

Every year in Oklahoma there are a few players who go from relative obscurity to holding elite offers from around the Big 12, and in some cases the country. This year it would be hard to argue that the player filling that role could be anyone other than Ardmore, Okla. three-star defensive lineman Tyreece Lott.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Lott had few offers, including Oklahoma State, before Oklahoma came through with an offer on Dec. 8. Though that Oklahoma offer didn't have the immediate impact it often does with in-state recruits and Lott took a trip to TCU the day after the Sooners offer and committed to the Horned Frogs on Dec. 13.

But Lott and the Sooners remained in touch and when he took an official visit to Norman on Jan. 20 it seemed he and Oklahoma were on a collision course with one another. He made that feeling official on Friday by committing to Oklahoma with Bob Stoops and Calvin Thibodeaux on hand for an in-school visit.

As a player that didn't get the amount of early attention of some his peers Lott knows just how big his decision was.

"It was an honor, just a blessing to be in this moment," Lott said. "Only (a few) high school football players get to do this, so I'm just really blessed."

Oklahoma's No. 19 overall prospect may not have been immediately overwhelmed by his offer from Oklahoma but the Sooners were always going to have a chance thanks to a family full of Sooner fans.

"Most (of) my family is," he said. "My family is just really proud of me and thankful for me."

With his decision behind him and the chance to focus on moving north up I-35 what are the Sooners plans for him when he arrives?

"(Coach Thibs) said he was going to have me in a 3-tech or 4i."
