SCOOPHD: A Houston Showdown

HOUSTON - For all of the talent in 'Space City' few programs in the country's fourth largest city produce more talent and see more on the field success than Manvel and Galena Park North Shore. Though that talent may have not had a chance to make a high-flying ability in a 26-13 Manvel win that was much more nip and tuck than the score leads one to believe.

Leading the way for North Shore was Oklahoma outside linebacker offer K'Lavon Chaisson who Manvel routinely worked to move away from and did everything they could to negate his impact.

In return North Shore moved Chaisson around working with from defensive end to outside linebacker and even occasionally slid inside to play, and rush from, inside linebacker.

For the most part Manvel did enough to slow him down but Chaisson came up with a pair of sacks and got his hands into passing lanes on several occasions.

The question remains of his fit in a 4-3 scheme as he still looks a bit more natural standing up, particularly in the run game. Regardless though it's his ability as a pass rusher that separates him. More on that below in the SCOOPHD breakdown.

Not surprisingly with two so talented rosters he wasn't the only Oklahoma offer on the field as Manvel has 2018 wide receiver Jalen Preston. The massive receiver has a prototypical frame but on the night was kept rather quiet both with few targets as well as just one catch, for -1 yard. When, and if, Preston's production can catch up with his physical attributes he has a chance to be on of the Lone Star State's best in the class of 2018.

NOTES:

*One player who had a big role in Preston's slow night was North Shore 2017 cornerback Kieston Roach. The feisty cornerback may not have perfect measurables or the speed to to overwhelm passing attacks but his positioning is outstanding and he does a nice job forcing receivers into uncomfortable positions.
