Sooners are Smothered

Oklahoma's massive July just keeps rolling as moments ago the Sooners picked up a commitment from Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte Rivals250 running back Daylan Smothers. The talented back picked the Sooners built largely on the back of his official visit to the June 3 barbecue and his relationship with running backs coach Demarco Murray.

Smothers, who took official visits to not only Norman but also to North Carolina State and Florida State as well as some other unofficial visits to South Carolina and Penn State, gushed about his Oklahoma trip and after it was over was very honest that the Sooners could be his choice.

"The people and coaching staff are amazing there especially coach (Brent) V(enables) and Murray," Smothers said at the time. "They are great guys.

"(There is) a strong chance (I go to Oklahoma). It was a great weekend."

Smothers took his visits in June to Florida State on June 24 and to see the Wolfpack on June 16. And with that choice made he passed over offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Miami, Michigan, and Ohio State amongst many many others.

This commitment is Oklahoma's No. 15 for the class of 2023 and No. 8 since June 27 as the Sooners continue to keep rolling. He also figures to fill up Murray's 2023 running back class as he joins June commitment Kalib Hicks.
