Sooners Getting a Head Start

Few players in the state of Texas are off to a faster start than Corinth (Texas) Lake Dallas star quarterback Drew Sanders.

The 2020 signal caller has picked up offers from Baylor, Georgia, TCU, and Houston along with the Sooners. With more likely to come Sanders has been busy this summer with a trip to Norman on Tuesday and a trip scheduled to Texas A&M on July 22.

But during his trip to Oklahoma he got in touch with one particular Sooner, who couldn't help but admire the young quarterback's 6-foot-5, 212-pound frame.

"It was awesome meeting (Baker Mayfield)," Sanders said. "He didn't really say much he just said 'wow you're a big kid' and that Oklahoma is a great place to be."

Mayfield's main man in Norman is Oklahoma's new head man Lincoln Riley and the Sooners newest leader hit the right notes with not only Sanders but his parents, who joined him during his visit.

"Coach Riley is great my parents and I really like his personality," he said. "(The visit) went great. I was able to meet every coach, also some players, and see everything on the campus."

Sanders, who says much of his summer is going to be dedicated to working out and continuing to improve his game, had trouble picking out just one thing that stood out about his trip.

"I think the people from the players, coaches, and support staff were great. It was fun to meet everyone," he said. "The facilities are impressive. It's a great place to be. Coach Riley and Coach (Cale) Gundy made us feel at home."
