Sooners O: The Need for Speed

Just moments ago at a press conference at his former high school, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna, four-star wide receiver Marquise Brown announced his commitment to Oklahoma. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver with game-breaking speed pledged his future to the Sooners over their Big 12 rivals West Virginia.

That commitment was broken by 2018 RIVALS100 wide receiver Xavier Williams.

His choice of Oklahoma came just over a week after his official visit to the Sooners, his final trip, and five days since he canceled his expected official visit to USC last weekend after both the Mountaineers and Sooners were in-home on Wednesday.

Many felt Oklahoma was in a strong position prior to his official visit but according to Brown the trip itself really made an impression on him.

"It went well, I got to hang out with Kyler Murray, Dede, Nick (Basquine), and it was all cool. I got to hang out with them after they won the championship that night – they were all cool," Brown said.

"The whole time the coaches were talking about, we watched film on them; he wants me to play the z, the position that Dede plays. They are really selling him to me.

"They were showing me, they had this setup, like all of Dede’s film from week one to about week eight and all the plays that they run. All the schemes, all the setup, the routes that they run – it was great that they did that."

Though Oklahoma undoubtedly made plenty of plans to impress Brown during his visit there was one aspect that couldn't have been planned, at least not in any real length. That was the decision from Baker Mayfield to announce his intentions to return next season. And not surprisingly the chance to catch passes from the Heisman finalist definitely impacted Brown.

"It means a lot, one year could put you on that map that you want to be one – he throws that thing deep. I’d love to get a chance to play with him," he said.

SoonerScoop.com will have more with Brown through the day.
