Sooners Try to Knock Out Creed

Few years in memory have seen more Oklahoma players explode on the recruiting scene the way the class of 2017 has watched one player after another do. The latest member of that rapid-rising club is Shawnee center Creed Humphrey who has, in the past two weeks has picked up offers from Texas A&M, Kansas State, Texas, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma.

The Sooners came through with an offer earlier this week after looking as though they might pass on the talented 6-foot-4, 290-pound blocker. The nation’s No. 4 center broke down just how everything came together in his Oklahoma recruitement.

“Coach (Bill) B(edenbaugh) invited me down to Tuesday's practice while I was in New Orleans (for The Opening) this past weekend. I went to their practice and talked to coach B after in his office and he offered me.”

Humphrey said that the Sooners interest had been picking up in recent weeks but Bedenbaugh explained why things came to a head earlier this week.

“He said that after their spring practices, they decided to take another interior lineman and they chose me,” he relayed.

During his time on campus Humphrey had a chance to look at Oklahoma’s facilities and get a better feel for the coaching staff. But he says that there was one area in particular that really caught his attention.

“I had a great time. I love the way the coaching staff runs the practices and the facilities that they are building are going to be awesome,” he said. “I'm mostly excited about the new weight room that they are building. It's going to be awesome.”

Humphrey grew up as something of an Oklahoma fan but says that as exciting as the offer is he isn’t going to rush into any decision. But that’s not to say he doesn’t have a timeline in place for his decision.

“I still don't have one school on the top of my list right now. I want to take my recruiting slow and make sure I make the best decision for me,” he said. “I'll make my decision probably later spring or early summer.”

In continuing the effort toward a decision he has a few more trips planned this spring.

“I'm headed down to Colorado State next weekend and possibly Alabama too,” Humphrey explained.

And though Oklahoma took a bit longer than some others to throw their hat into the ring of his recruitment he says there is no doubt they’ll be there until the end.

“Yes sir,” he said of Oklahoma’s likelihood of being among his final group of schools.
