Trae Young Picks OU

Until Thursday, Blake Griffin was the highest ranked and only Oklahoma five-star basketball prospect to commit to the Sooners.

Until Thursday.

Griffin was knocked off his perch just after high noon inside Norman North High School when 2017's No. 14 overall player, Trae Young, announced his commitment to Oklahoma over Kansas, Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Washington, and Texas Tech. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound point guard is ranked nine spots higher than Griffin was in the final 2007 rankings, making him the top rated in-state prospect to ever choose OU.

Young will immediately bring an elite scoring threat to an OU team that currently ranks eighth in the Big 12 in three-point percentage, ninth in scoring, and dead last in field goal percentage.

As a senior, Young again topped the state of Oklahoma averaging over 43 points per game, including a 6A-record 62 points last Friday.

Young joins a 2017 class with Harrah (Okla.) Rivals15o power forward Brady Manek and 6-foot-11, 265-pound Helsinki (Finland) Basketball Academy center Hannes Pöllä.

Manek and Pöllä signed with Oklahoma during basketball's early signing period. Young will join them on the second signing date - April 12.
