Video Breakdown: Ryan Jones

Just hours after Troy James announced his pledge to attend Oklahoma, 2017 Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek wide receiver Ryan Jones made his Sooner commitment public. The four-star joins an already impressive class of pass-catchers that includes fellow four-stars Cedarian Lamb, Charleston Rambo, Marquise Brown, and Grant Calcaterra.

The 6-foot-2, 201-pound wide receiver is more bouncy and explosive in short spaces than he is overly fast in his long speed, but that allows the physical receiver to be adept at creating space and high-pointing contested catches.

With Saturday's additions of James and now Jones, there is no question that the Sooners have added significant toughness to their class of 2017. Strength and physicality are two key attributes of the North Carolina first-team all-state selection's game. He does a solid job winning the line of scrimmage and not allowing defensive backs to force him off his line. Notice on most of Jones' receptions deep down the sideline that he almost always keeps his route close to the numbers on the field, which gives the quarterback more room to make his throw to the outside and allowing his receiver to do the rest.

Don't get the wrong impression either, it's not that Jones is a large, lumbering wideout at all. In fact, he often shows surprising burst and lateral quickness to pick up extra yards. Just don't expect him to be someone that takes the lid off defenses or never gets caught from behind, because that's not really his game.

Jones is reminiscent of a slightly smaller, more explosive Zach Farrar, who the Sooners signed in last year's class.
