Video Breakdown: Tyreece Lott

On Friday, the OU football team added their 25th member to the class of 2017 and their sixth from the state of Oklahoma when three-star Ardmore defensive tackle and former TCU commitment Tyreece Lott announced his pledge to the Sooners.

The last time the Oklahoma football program landed this many prospects from their home state was in 2007 when they signed seven from the Sooner state - including the NCAA's eventual all-time receiving leader, Ryan Broyles. Lott will hope to be more Broyles than Bumpus from that in-state class.

When watching Lott on tape one of the first thing that jumps off the screen is the surprising athleticism he derives from the power in his lower body. There are multiple occasions in his reel when the 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive lineman charges from behind to catch up with a ball-carrier, a la Charles Tapper tackling Amari Cooper in the 2014 Sugar Bowl.

Lott also has a great natural feel for space and angles, which allow him to never take himself out of a play and also to reach tackles that most linemen in his shoes would rarely get to.

Now, his initial burst off the line isn't exactly where you would want it to be with someone of Lott's athleticism, which can be fixed as the three-star continues to learn technique and develops into his body. However, the burst the newest Sooner pledge can create after building up some steam is impressive and can lead to some violent collisions. Defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux's main goal will be figuring out how to harness that explosion into smaller spaces.

Lott's athleticism and power would make him a great candidate for a promising offensive tackle if he were a few inches taller, alas, those tools will serve him well as a natural fit at defensive end in Oklahoma's three-man front.
