Wease Opens 2019

Though Oklahoma's second junior day was, obviously, aimed at 2018 prospects it's primary fireworks came in the class of 2019 with the commitments of a pair of Lone Star State receivers. The first of those two near simultaneous commitments was Allen, Texas star Theo Wease. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound receiver, who put up 35 receptions for 421-yards and eight touchdowns, announced his commitment to Oklahoma on Twitter along with his friend, and fellow 2019 receiver Arjei Henderson.

Wease chose Oklahoma over offers from Baylor, Colorado, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas amongst many others.

So what made him so certain of his Oklahoma decision?

"I actually decided last month with my parents. I used this month to fully think about it with my parents and of course [I've been] praying on it," Wease said.

"The tradition of winning, the coaching staff it just reminds me a lot of how we do things around here at Allen."

And it seems that while Wease and Henderson came to their decisions on their own time, they couldn't help but come to their choice together after befriending one another during the 'True19' sophomore all-star game back in mid-January.

"We both knew, we figured out we were committing to the same place so we decided to announce it together," he said.

But according to Wease, Henderson couldn't hold the secret from Oklahoma's staff.

"They kinda already knew what was going down I think Arjei told them the news early," he laughed.

Though the coaches had an inkling of what was coming they still took the time to celebrate two of the earliest commitments in program history.

"We celebrated with pictures and talking about the future," Wease explained.

Not surprisingly Wease acknowledges how early it in is in his recruitment and says he is 'still open' to other programs. However, he has already started to recruit other players to help join he and Henderson in what they, undoubtedly, hope will be a third straight Top 10 class for the Sooners.

"I've actually already started trying to get people to join," he admitted.

The rising junior says that, after visiting both of Oklahoma's junior day events, he'll be back in Norman for a 'spring practice of spring game'. In that time he'll continue to try and build relationships with the current players, signees, and coaching staff.

"I talk to (former Allen quarterback) Kyler Murray and 'Ceedee' [Cedarian Lamb] a little bit but not too much," he said.

And any reservations that the Oklahoma coaching staff might have about taking a commitment from a player that is still so young? According to Wease they simply notice how focused he is on his future.

"Since it is so early (Bob Stoops) knows that I'm serious about achieving my goal. He talked a lot about how he's gonna use me on the field once I get up there."
