A Look into the Future

Rankings are an always fluid situation and though the Sooners have numerous highly ranked prospects, that has led to currently having the No. 2 class in the country, could they be making upward moves yet? With the team camp circuit still coming up this summer, an entire season this fall, and the national all-star games that many of these players will take part in much can change between now and Feb. 1, 2017.

So at the suggestion of one of our own readers, let's dive into where things could end up, as far as Rivals.com rankings go, for each of Oklahoma's 12 current commitments.

Current Rankings:

No. 140 Overall

No. 15 Cornerback

No. 29 in Florida

The Skinny: Bandy is a guy that it all depends on who sees him and the things they are worrying about. Some within Rivals absolutely love Bandy's athleticism and toughness and think we've still got him too low, though we're the only network that has him in the nation's top 200, much less 150. Others are concerned about his size and the reality that he doesn't have the scary testing numbers that might counteract that size. In the end though Bandy is a guy that is physical, violent, and has great ball skills.

Projections: No. 115 Overall, No. 13 Cornerback, No. 25 in Florida

Robert Barnes

No. 156 Overall

No. 14 Safety

No. 21 in Texas

The Skinny: Barnes is a guy that seems to be improving rapidly, each time the SoonerScoop staff sees him he looks a little more fluid, a little cleaner with his footwork, etc. One can't help but wonder if that is down to a long and rangy defender starting to grow into his frame and looking increasingly natural with his movement around the secondary. If Barnes can put together a big senior year and some impressive tape it's possible he climbs a bit higher.

Projections: No. 148 Overall, No. 13 Safety, No. 20 in Texas

Justin Broiles

No. 176 Overall

No. 18 Cornerback

No. 2 in Oklahoma

The Skinny: Broiles saw his stock explode in the spring when he went from a well thought of regional prospect to one of the nation's most sought after defensive backs collecting offers from some of the nation's powerhouses. One of the questions for Broiles is where he'll play in college, many see his best set as a nickelback which offers a few limitations. That being said he might slip a little but it won't be due to negative reviews as much as just questions about his future home position.

Projections: No. 225 Overall, No. 22 Cornerback, No. 5 in Oklahoma

Tre Brown

No. 177 Overall

No. 19 Cornerback

No. 3 in Oklahoma

The Skinny: Few players in the state seem to have a chance to climb higher than Brown thanks to his overwhelming athleticism. If Brown can start to put more of that athleticism on tape and really become the lockdown corner that his ability says he can be he could truly vault in these rankings. With all of his summer time competitions, here is guessing that starts to come together and leads to a big move for him.

Projections: No. 130 Overall, No. 15 Cornerback, No. 2 in Oklahoma

Grant Calcaterra

No. 40 Athlete

No. 40 in California

The Skinny: Calcaterra is a player that definitely seems to have his best football ahead of him as a currently long and lean athlete that is still filling out his frame. But what you can already tell on tape is his natural ability as a receiver both with his hands and his ability to find gaps in coverage. Calcaterra will need time but could be a guy that grow into things this season.

Projections: No. 13 Tight End, No. 36 in California

Levi Draper

No. 135 Overall

No. 6 Inside Linebacker

No. 1 in Oklahoma

The Skinny: Draper is going to be one of the most interesting stories of the spring as he was trending in all of the right directions before a self-admitted poor showing at the Dallas Under Armour camp. He was so disappointed in his effort that he has chosen to show up to another camp series event in Kansas City next weekend and could do a lot to right the ship. Draper was ill in Dallas and there is every reason to think he can clean his name after a showing more befitting of his ability.

Projections: No. 125 Overall, No. 6 Inside Linebacker, No. 3 in Oklahoma

Charleston Rambo

No. 151 Overall

No. 21 Wide Receiver

No. 20 in Texas

The Skinny: Rambo is the kind of player that during the offseason always slides by a bit under appreciate and then when the lights go on, he begins to climb rankings again. So don't be surprised if he slips a bit this spring and summer only to end up about where he is as it feels as though Rivals has a pretty good placement on a receiver that is more effective than he is flashy.

Projections: No. 140 Overall, No. 20 Wide Receiver, No. 20 in Texas

Jalen Reagor

No. 55 Wide Receiver

No. 45 in Texas

The Skinny: If Reagor doesn't move up from here, I'm just not sure of anything. When I watch the tape I like him as much, and maybe more, than any receiver in a really good group in Texas for 2017. Reagor has a nice blend of length and feel but is a surprising athlete at his position for the son of a former college defensive lineman.

Projections: No. 165 Overall, No. 27 Wide Receiver, No. 24 in Texas

Tyrese Robinson

No. 52 Overall

No. 3 Offensive Guard

No. 6 in Texas

The Skinny: I've already gone on record as thinking Robinson could slip, but ever so slightly. He is a guy that I think the world of but think he is clearly going to end up at guard - more based on body type than having an inability to play on the edge. He is a big-time talent and if he stayed steady I'd have no argument, clearly a guy that has the nastiness and athleticism to excel.

Projections: No. 60 Overall, No. 3 Offensive Guard, No. 6 in Texas

Chris Robison

No. 96 Overall

No. 6 Dual-Threat Quarterback

No. 11 in Texas

The Skinny: Robison is a guy that has a chance to move up in the next rankings update after the spring evaluation period thanks to an absolutely stellar performance at the Dallas Rivals camp. If he can follow that up with a big day at the five-star challenge he could go even further up the chain. Robison looked as good at Cedar Hill as any time the Scoop staff has seen him. His size isn't perfect but it's not something he has to prove isn't an issue so much as something that might separate him from similar talents who are just a bit more prototypical in frame.

Projections: No. 75 Overall, No. 6 Dual-Threat Quarterback, No. 10 in Texas

Trey Sermon

No. 148 Overall

No. 9 Running Back

No. 18 in Georgia

The Skinny: Sermon is the type of player that has a lot of chance to move up thanks to his great frame, strong spring performances and the reality that any questions of his junior year can be chocked up to an injury. If he seizes these opportunities a back with his size and speed could definitely slide into the top 100.

Projections: No. 82 Overall, No. 6 Running Back, No. 12 in Georgia

Marcelias Sutton

Unranked

The Skinny: Allow me to be really bold, Sutton will move up in the rankings. There now that we've got that big news out of the way this one is the gimme on the list as Sutton will likely end up as a three-star, the question is where. He is a smaller back but I think he is more powerful than he gets credit for and though his long speed has been somewhat debated his short area quickness is clearly there.

Projections: 5.6 3-star, Top 50 junior college prospect
