After Norman, Rogers Has a Plan

For Oklahoma's class of 2017 only a few pieces remain and no position seems more important to the class's close than along both lines of scrimmage. One of last weekend's official visitors who the Sooners hope will choose to help answer those remaining questions is Houston Christian three-star defensive lineman Joshua Rogers.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound lineman, who many feel could play in numerous roles along both lines of scrimmage, was hosted by Sooners redshirt freshman defensive end Neville Gallimore. Apparently, he and the other Sooners defensive lineman made sure Rogers, who actually broke his phone on the visit, had quite a time.

"Yeah man, it was crazy," Rogers said. "It was pretty cool I got to get a glimpse of how it is playing under coach Thibs (defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux) and they just kept it real with me about football and just being a student at Oklahoma.

"He is a really cool guy and funny too. He showed me around the city and just got to chill and talk to him about school."

"He said that it is great playing under coach Thibs is great."

Gallimore talked about Oklahoma's first year defensive line coach but the man himself had plenty to say when it came to trying to sell one of Oklahoma's largest defensive line targets on the idea of making the combined trip up I-45 and I-35.

"I will have an opportunity to play as early as I possibly can and overall he is just a great guy and means well and he loves his players," he explained.

Like many players, the idea of playing early clearly appeals to Rogers but he says that it was being around Thibodeaux and the rest of the Oklahoma coaching staff that truly caught his eye and impressed him from his trip.

"I was great, I enjoyed every part of it I got to see what they were all about since I had never been there before, but overall it was a very good first impression," he said.

Oklahoma was Rogers' first official visit but he isn't in any hurry to make a decision nor take his remaining visits.

"My next and last visits wont be until January (A&M and Ole Miss)," he said.

Rogers went on to say that he'll be announcing his choice on National Signing Day and though the memory of Oklahoma will have to stay in his mind for two months it's clear the Sooners gave him plenty to think about and are now 'there' with his long-time believed leader Texas A&M.

"The visit showed me a side of OU that I had not yet seen and that 1-on-1 time with the coaches let me learn a lot about them like I know A&M, you know? But as far as where they stand after the visit the are most definitely there with A&M."
