Brooks: Part of the Family

Commit Breakdown: Kennedy Brooks

Fun Facts: Kennedy Brooks

When talking to Oklahoma's latest commitment, Mansfield, Texas running back Kennedy Brooks, he says the Sooners have already made one direct comparison from his game to the current roster.

"They compare my running style to Joe (Mixon)," Brooks said.

The 6-foot, 197-pound four-star prospect helped lead Mansfield to it's first district title in 45-years, in a district that included Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, and South Grand Prairie. With all of the success it would be easy for Brooks to be the guy you hear coming before you see him. However, it's another Oklahoma running back that he may bear the most resemblance to off the field - the ever-quiet Samaje Perine.

And while many players are certainly aware of Oklahoma's two-headed backfield duo for Brooks it goes farther back with his family and the Sooners as the nation's No. 15 running back admits to growing up an Oklahoma fan. Now though it's another family that he is excited to join.

"I love the college and the tradition they have up there. They always have great backs and I'm just glad to be part of the family," he said.

As a junior Brooks put up a staggering 3,522-yards and 42 touchdowns on 431 carries in 2015 is already well on his way averaging a yard more per carry so far in 2016 with 1,185 yards and 16 touchdowns on 119-carries. With such big production against one of the nation's most brutal districts his offer list, that included Wisconsin, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, and Washington, was as legitimate as it could be.

But it was his performance last weekend, against Arlington, that running backs coach Jay Boulware was on hand for that seemed to sell the Sooners. On the night Brooks collected 27-carries for 263-yards and three touchdowns, a performance that led to a bold statement from his opposing head coach.

"The reality is, I feel like [Brooks] is the best back in the state," Arlington head coach Scott Peach said to The Dallas Morning News.

SoonerScoop.com will still have more with Brooks.
