Commit Breakdown: Rivals250 DB Miguel Edwards

Oklahoma has made a habit of dipping into the Sunshine State to find productive defenders, a la Eric Striker and Ahmad Thomas, and they have done so again with Friday's commitment of 2018 Deerfield Beach (Fla.) Rivals250 safety Miguel Edwards.

The 6-foot-0, 165-pound defensive back is clearly comfortable making plays on the ball in the air. When a pass comes his way, Edwards doesn't panic, finds the ball, and usually comes down with it because of an impressive set of hands. Those ball skills in addition to Edwards' athleticism also make him a valuable multi-purpose offensive weapon for Deerfield Beach. However, it is definitely defense where the Florida four-star has the brightest future.

Edwards is a long, sleight athlete that moves with a smooth suddenness both when he's turning to break on a pass attempt downfield and covering space downhill towards the line of scrimmage.

He'll need to add weight and get stronger like most incoming freshman, but his frame suggests that shouldn't be much of a problem. Despite not being the biggest guy on the field, the newest Sooner commitment shows that he's not afraid of contact and willing to deliver a blow rather than receive one.

The most valuable trait for Edwards is just how multi-faceted he can be as a defensive back. He can play both safety and cornerback, but his length and athleticism make him almost ideal for the nickel position. Edwards should be a versatile player for Kerry Cooks in the secondary and Oklahoma should also be very excited to land this kind of talent from the state of Florida over schools like Alabama, Auburn, and Miami.
