Elite DT Could be Nearing Commitment

Back on July 25 the Sooners and defensive tackles coach, Jackie Shipp hosted one of the top JUCO prospects in the country in defensive tackle, Toby Johnson. The four-star prospect out of Hutchinson (Kan.) Hutchinson C.C. got the chance to sit down with Shipp and the Oklahoma coaches and talk about how he would be used in the defense to make plays.
"I liked the visit a lot," Johnson said. "Coach Shipp and I got a good relationship. I got the chance to sit down and talk with a lot of the coaches. They said they are going to put me in position to make plays. I also got the chance to sit down and talk to Casey (Walker). Casey sat down and told me how much they need me."

Johnson says Oklahoma would be a good fit for him and talked about knowing that coach Shipp could prepare him for the NFL.
"I just feel like OU would be a good place for me. I know they got a winning tradition and that's what I want to do. And I know coach Shipp will help get me to the next level."
The 6-foot-4 and 305-pound prospect, who holds over 20-offers, liked the campus, the facilities and the winning tradition the Sooners have.
"The campus was nice. The facilities are top notch. I didn't know that Oklahoma wins that much. Oklahoma's got a big time winning tradition," he stated.
Johnson also recently took a visit to Nebraska before his visit to Oklahoma that he enjoyed. As for what he has upcoming Johnson says he has no more visits this summer and is just ready for the season to get here.
"I'm basically just trying to get ready for the season," he replied. "All this recruiting stuff, I'm trying to get it over with."
There is a chance that Johnson could end his recruitment soon at some point but he says he wants to check out a few games this season to see what a few teams look like.
"I really haven't made up my mind yet. It could be (his choice), you never know but like I said I am going to wait a couple of games into the season. Last year I didn't get the chance to watch a lot of teams," Johnson answered.
Johnson stated that the Sooners are up at the top of his list and had been leading up to his visit.
