FAQs: WR Signee Marquise Brown

On Monday, Oklahoma earned the commitment from 2017 four-star College of the Canyons (Cali.) wide receiver Marquise Brown.

Here's what you need to know about the JUCO wide receiver that accounted for over 1,300 yards and 12 touchdowns in 10 games last season.

Where does Brown fit in Oklahoma's offense?

The early speculation surrounding the 5-foot-11, 170-pound receiver was that he would specifically be a slot receiver. However, our own Josh McCuistion has reported that Oklahoma has sold Brown on playing both inside and outside in their offense, not dissimilar from Sterling Shepard's role. There's plenty of precedent for smaller receivers being able to play outside if they have elite ball skills or speed and Brown is gifted with plenty of the latter.

Brown, who had two return touchdowns and nearly 600 return yards in just 10 games last season, will also be an immediate spark to Oklahoma's special teams.

How quickly can Brown make an impact?

If you count Mark Andrews as a tight end, here is a list of the returning Oklahoma wide receivers for 2017 who caught a pass this season.

The losses of Westbrook and Geno Lewis will mean that 70.3% of Oklahoma's wide receiver production will be walking out the door and a void will be created that Brown will have every opportunity to help fill. He will be competing with fellow four-stars Cedarian Lamb and Charleston Rambo, but Brown does have the experience and age advantage as the only JUCO pass-catcher incoming.

Who does Brown remind you of?

There have been obvious comparisons to the JUCO wide receiver that this JUCO wide receiver will likely be replacing. The likeness to Jalen Saunders and his style of play struck more of a chord than Westbrook with what you see of Brown on tape.

Brown may not be quite as fast as Westbrook, but, like Saunders, still has absurd speed in his own right with greater agility in tight spaces.

While Shepard was more Steve Smith - short, but tough, sturdy, and physical enough to make contested catches, Brown is more Santana Moss - short, but possesses elite speed, change of direction skills, and an uncanny feel for space around him.

When will Brown arrive in Norman?

Brown signed his letter of intent on Wednesday and was officially welcomed to the Oklahoma program on Twitter by the head man himself, Bob Stoops.

That means, as an early enrollee, Brown should be expected in Norman by the time classes start on January 17 and will be fully eligible to practice.

Fans will likely be able to see their newest weapon catching passes from Baker Mayfield as early as the next Spring Game.

What will Brown's number be at OU?

"They say No. 1, but I won't be hurt about a number if I don't get it."

Brown wore No. 6 for College of the Canyons, the same as Baker Mayfield.

As of now, sophomore quarterback Kyler Murray has the No. 1 jersey.
