Flowers Arrives Committed, Leaves Ready for Quick Return

San Antonio has been an area of focus for Oklahoma under Bob Stoops and the area has returned the favor through the years with numerous Alamo city standouts heading north up I-35 to Norman. Interestingly in the class of 2014, for the second straight year, a San Antonio native committed to the Sooners sight unseen.

This year it was San Antonio Churchill three-star athlete Dimitri Flowers. And last weekend the 6-foot-3, 219-pound prospect took his official visit to see his future home and interestingly enough was hosted by the San Antonio player that preceded him in committing late and enrolling in January.

"It was very exciting, meeting all the coaches and talking to everyone. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I'm excited to get up there next month," Flowers said. "It was kind of like reassuring, it only made my commitment that much more certain. Or not even solid, but I'm so glad I'm about to go to this school. There is honestly nowhere else I would want to go."

"I went up by myself but I actually stayed with Dannon Cavil, I knew him from San Antonio. I also talked to Trey Millard a lot. We talked about how they would use me and what is going on and what not."

Flowers knows the type of player he is hoping to replace in four-year starter, and All-American, Millard. The chance to bounce questions off of him was a rare opportunity that he had big ideas on putting to work.

"I mean, I just took advantage. He told me I'd be moving around and I'd have to pay attention to every detail because my position could change. I like that and using my versatility. It was good for him to tell me, I know coaches try and butter people up but it was good for him to tell me these things."

Though he quickly got acquainted with Millard it was his lengthy relationship with Cavil that provided further insight into the program.

"He told me everything, I need to come in prepared and ready to work and what not. He told me the first might be a little challenging but there are so many people that are there for you," he said.

On his official visit he was joined by fellow early enrollee Justice Hansen. It wasn't the first time the two has spoken as they, along with Dallis Todd and Samaje Perine, have had conversations since Flowers' commitment.

Though it may be news to Todd, who will enroll early along with Flowers and Hansen, it appears the two weekend visitors may be rooming together.

"Justice and I are going to room together, he is coming with me early," he said. "I don't know Samaje well, it's more of we know of each other, we've been to a few camps with him."
