Eric Bassey's brother, Bryant Bassey, is a suspect in what police are investigating as a double homicide.
Bryant Bassey, 34, has been arrested on charge of capital murder. His bond has been set at $1 million.
In a college career marred by injuries, Bassey played a total of 49 games, starting 27 games, in his career at Oklahoma. He recorded 112 tackles with three interceptions.
He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Buffalo Bills in 2006, spending the season on the practice squad.
In 2007, he signed with the St. Louis Rams and played in eight games. He was waived by the Rams on Aug. 9, 2009 after suffering an ACL tear during training camp.
