Future Sooners: A Fast Start

Most of Oklahoma's 22 combined commitments between the class of 2017 and 2018 got their season's started over the weekend and several wasted no time presenting why they are among the nation's top handful of players at their position. Oklahoma's pair of future quarterbacks as well as a duo of receivers were near perfect over the weekend but who took home MVP honors?

The Skinny: Austin was part of a secondary that had something of a tough night falling 35-23 to Denton Ryan and their talented 2018 quarterback Spencer Sanders. On the night Sanders had 343-yards passing and three touchdowns but was intercepted twice.

Next Week: Lancaster (0-1) is hosting South Oak Cliff.

The Skinny: Barnes was part of a tough defense that limited fellow powerhouse, Tulsa Union, to just 138-yards passing. Barnes more than did his part with eight solo tackles, two assists, and two pass break-ups. However his offense was even more stymied than the Redskins as the Dragons fell 21-10 to Union.

Next Week: Carroll (0-1) is hosting Arlington Martin.

The Skinny: John Marshall was off this week.

Next Week: John Marshall (0-0) is traveling to OKC Heritage Hall.

The Skinny: Though committed at cornerback Brown's big numbers were put up on offense with three carries for 12 yards and two catches for 21-yards. Union topped Dallas area powerhouse Southlake Carroll 21-10.

Next Week: Union (1-0) is hosting Broken Arrow.

The Skinny: Calcaterra did his part with 7 receptions for 33-yards but his team was overmatched against California powerhouse falling 48-21 to Mission Viejo.

Next Week: Catholic (0-1) is hosting Los Angeles Loyola.

The Skinny: Draper had a huge highlight reel hit and was part of a defense that shut down Tulsa East Central 47-0. On the night he put up 10 tackles, three tackles for loss, and a forced fumble in just over a half of football.

Next Week: Collinsville (1-0) is traveling to Oologah on Thursday Sept. 1.

The Skinny: Gumbs helped his Stellar Prep to a nail-biting 26-25 victory over Castro Valley.

Next Week: Stellar Prep (1-0) is traveling to Oakland Tech.

The Skinny: Hall had a lengthy touchdown run in his team's 63-21 demolition of Providence.

Next Week: Vance (2-0) is hosting Danville (Va.) George Washington.

The Skinny: Hayes and his Pattonville offense fell behind early on but exploded for their first win of the season, 40-14 over Mehlville.

Next Week: Pattonville (1-1) is hosting Eureka.

The Skinny: Shawnee was off this week.

Next Week: Shawnee (0-0) is hosting Guthrie.

The Skinny: Lamb got off to a huge start on the season with a 93-yard touchdown, on a three receptions for 103-yards day. He also had a 77-yard punt return for touchdown in his team's 28-17 win over Katy Taylor.

Next Week: Foster (1-0) is traveling to College Station A&M Consolidated.

The Skinny: As his team was shutout, 35-0, against Round Rock Cedar Ridge he still managed eight punts for 321-yards for an average of over 40-yards per punt.

The Skinny: It wasn't the start that Murray and his Elkins teammates were hoping for in a 51-14 defeat by a highly thought of Dickinson squad.

Next Week: Elkins (0-1) is traveling to Conroe Oak Ridge.

The Skinny: Rambo had one of the highlights of the night with a 27-yard touchdown catch and four more catches for 51-yards in what was an otherwise disappointing night as Cedar Hill was roughed up by Las Vegas Bishop Gorman 44-14.

The Skinny: Reagor got his season off to a huge start in a 46-34 in a win over Garland Lakeview Centennial. The four-star had seven receptions for 141-yards and two touchdowns (3, 93).

Next Week: Waxahachie (1-0) is hosting Highland Park.

The Skinny: Rising helped his team explode to a 65-44 win over Pacifica, in his county's third-highest scoring game ever. On the night he went 20-34 for 358-yards and five touchdowns; he also rushed for 82-yards and another score.

The Skinny: Robinson and his Boyd teammates got up early and controlled the line of scrimmage for large portions of the game but were unable to slow down Mesquite Horn falling 46-31. On the night Boyd put up over 400 total yards of offense.

Next Week: Boyd (0-1) is hosting Coppell.

The Skinny: Robison missed the second half but played near perfectly in a first half going 13-18 for 214-yards and two touchdowns in a 46-31 victory over McKinney Boyd.

Next Week: Horn (1-0) is traveling to Skyline.

The Skinny: Sermon helped his team to their highest scoring output in program history during a 60-0 win over Osborne. He had a 39-yard run on the game's first play from scrimmage but was pulled early.
