On Tuesday night, the Sooners took a four-game losing streak into Gainesville to face No. 2 Florida. They left with a five-game losing streak.
Oklahoma was routed by Florida, falling 85-63, dropping them to 16-10 (3-10) on the season. It marks their fourth loss in the last five games by 18 or more points and their fifth straight defeat overall.
From the opening half, it was clear where this game was headed. The Gators came out on fire from deep, hitting 9-20 (45%) from three, while Oklahoma struggled mightily — shooting just 26.9% from the field and 18.2% from beyond the arc. That combination resulted in a 46-24 halftime lead for Florida.
The Sooners shot the ball much better in the second half (55%), while Florida cooled off from deep (25%). But by then, the damage was done, and the Gators cruised to an 85-63 win.
NOTES
– Jeremiah Fears put together one of his best halves of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing five rebounds in 19 minutes of first-half action. He shot 5-11 from the field and 2-5 from deep — accounting for all of Oklahoma’s made threes in the half.
Porter Moser usually pulls him at the first media timeout, but this time, he let Fears play the first eight minutes, and you could tell the freshman looked more comfortable and in rhythm.
Fears finished with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal, and three turnovers in 34 minutes. He shot 7-15 from the field, 4-8 from three, and 4-5 at the free throw line.
– Jalon Moore was Oklahoma’s second-leading scorer, finishing with 11 points and four rebounds in 33 minutes. He shot 3-8 from the field, 0-2 from deep, and 5-8 from the line.
Brycen Goodine finished with 8 points and six rebounds, shooting 2-6 from the field and 2-4 from deep in 30 minutes. Kobe Elvis added 6 points on 3-6 shooting in 20 minutes but recorded a team-low plus-minus of -23.
– Walter Clayton Jr. led Florida with 18 points on 6-9 shooting. Will Richard and Alijah Martin each added 14.
– This game against Florida exposed a massive talent gap. Aside from Fears and Moore, the reality is the Sooners just don’t have the roster to compete with a team like Florida — even when the Gators are banged up. There’s plenty of talk about Moser being on the hot seat, but this one was less about coaching and more about Oklahoma’s lack of talent.
– Florida started off scorching from deep in the first half but cooled off late, finishing 12-32 (38%) from three and 28-62 (45%) overall. Oklahoma, meanwhile, shot 19-49 (35%) from the field, 7-20 (35%) from three, and just 18-27 (67%) from the line.
– The Gators only outrebounded Oklahoma by one (36-35), but they dominated in other areas—outscoring the Sooners 28-14 in bench points, committing just six turnovers to OU’s 13, and turning those turnovers into 18 points compared to OU’s eight.
– Up next: The Sooners return home to take on Mississippi State on Saturday, February 22nd, at 12:00 p.m. on SEC Network.
