Humphrey Leaves Everyone Guessing

In a city loaded with elite football talent, few players are tougher to track down than League City (Texas) Clear Falls three-star wide receiver John Humphrey. Just when a defender thinks they have a bead on the 6-foot, 160-pound receiver with elite speed he makes a move and is off to the races.
His final days of his recruiting felt a lot like his on-field acumen.

Even when Humphrey was telling the world what the plan was, he managed to shake that idea and surprise everyone.
After an early commitment to Baylor Humphrey let hints slip of his plans to flip his commitment - most likely to Oklahoma. Just a few weeks later he was announcing a top five, canceling a long-attempted trip to Norman and saying that he would be making his college decision at the Semper-Fi All-American Bowl.
Finally earlier this week, after again planning a trip to Norman, he announced a top two of Oklahoma and Notre Dame and that the planned trip was, again, off.
Then, Humphrey 'cut' again' and not only made his trip to Norman but went ahead and pulled the trigger on the same decision he'd hinted at nearly two months before.
"Well because, it was in my gut, I just told myself 'why wait?' and that's when I made the decision. I don't want o lose an opportunity as big as this one, OU has always been my top school and I felt like I made the right choice," Humphrey said.
The nation's No. 88 receiver with offers from Baylor, Clemson, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and TCU amongst many others broke down his commitment from the weekend.
"I committed to coach [Bob] Stoops and then I went to coach [Jay] Norvell's coaching office and told him and everyone started to know and my phone started buzzing and it still is now," he laughed.
"I had that in my head, I sort of knew I was going to come up there and say what I had to say to coach Stoops and I'm glad I did it."
Humphrey was joined by the entirety of his immediate family and though the news of his visit came together at the last minute when the decision was made to head to Norman there was no doubt for anyone in the car what the trip would mean.
"Oh no, they already knew, we had talked about this prior [to Saturday] and so everything had the go-ahead and when we went up there, it was just a few words that changed everything," he said.
"They really love Oklahoma, they love the people, and I love the people also, I just feel comfortable around that group of guys."
So what was Bob Stoops's reaction when he learned he had his first, and perhaps only, wide receiver commitment in the class of 2015?
"He was freaking out like crazy."
In the coming days SoonerScoop.com will be bringing much, much more from Humphrey.
