Humphrey's Change of Heart

Shawnee, Okla. offensive lineman Creed Humphrey never made any bones about growing up an Oklahoma fan so when he announced his commitment to Texas A&M in late June it surprised many. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive lineman's pledge to the Aggies lasted just over a month after announcing on Monday evening that he would be flipping to his lifelong favorite.

"What changed from my original decision was where I felt I actually belonged," Humphrey said.

"I've been thinking about it for a while now, and I feel that my heart is leading me to stay home and play for OU."

And though the nation's No. 5 center has already changed his pledge once he says that he sees himself as done with the recruiting process.

"I do consider myself done with recruiting," he said.

As mentioned Humphrey has always been open about growing up an Oklahoma fan and the idea of playing on the same field he has stared at since childhood is a welcome idea.

"It feels awesome. Playing for OU has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid and knowing that this opportunity is actually happening is an awesome feeling," he said.

Humphrey, who says he hasn't yet spoken to any of his, now, fellow 2017 Oklahoma commitments has been in frequent contact with not only Bill Bedenbaugh but most of the Oklahoma offensive staff.

"Yes I have talked to coach Bedenbaugh, coach (Bob) Stoops, coach (Lincoln) Riley, and coach (Cale) Gundy throughout this past week," he said. "(When I spoke with Bedenbaugh) he was extremely fired up about it (laughing)."

Prior to announcing his commitment he told the Aggies of his decision and says that while they may not have been excited about it, one group that is pleased is his parents.

"My parents are excited that I'll be closer to home no doubt haha but they were happy for me wherever I ended up going," he said.

A big part of his comfort level with the Oklahoma staff seems to have actually come after his initial commitment to Texas A&M. It's a pursuit that, led by Bedenbaugh, Oklahoma never walked away from.

"We've been in contact throughout this whole process and they never really gave up on recruiting me," he said.

But was there one moment when it all came together for him that the Sooners might be the proper choice?

"Earlier last week was when I really started thinking "I know that OU is where I'm supposed to be."
