Massington Surprised by Oklahoma

When it comes to Norman, Okla. even players from nearby locales have many pre-conceived, yet unconfirmed, opinions on just what they will see once they get to campus. One such player is Mesquite (Texas) West Mesquite wide receiver Eldridge Massington.
The 6-foot-3, 188-pound receiver came to Norman with offers from Baylor, Colorado, Mississippi State, Oregon State and some ideas about what he was walking into. Some ideas that were swung by the Oklahoma coaching staff.

"It went real well, it was fun. At first I thought Oklahoma was going to be boring, I was impressed, really impressed," Massington said. "I know Kameel Jackson and we talked a bit and he said they have a lot of fun there."
In fact Jackson introduced Massington, along with his two friends and West Mesquite teammates to some of the Sooner coaching staff. And not surprisingly Jay Norvell was more than aware of the fast-rising junior receiver.
"First I was with Mike Stoops, me, Kameron Miles, and Will Earley, and Mike Stoops was showing us around. I was saying I got to get back on the offensive side," the receiver laughed.
"Kameel introduced me to the receivers coach (Norvell). Coach told me that they were going to be in touch. He told me they were going to come down and see me and that they were going to be hitting me hard."
One player that does have a Sooner offer who was in Norman with Massington was Dallas Jesuit's Jake Oliver. Though the two are in the conversation for Dallas' top receiver in the class of 2013, for Massington competing against quality players is a good thing for him.
"He knew who I was, and I know who he was, it's competition but it wasn't really like rivalry or anything. He is a good player," he said.
Though Oklahoma's offer is still up in the air don't expect Massington and the West Mesquite crew to sit around waiting for it as the three are trying to find an opportunity that will work for all three of them. As such they'll be all over the state of Texas in the coming weeks.
"Next weekend I'm going to California but the weekend after next, I think Will is going to Tech for a junior day and the week after next Kameron and I are going to Texas. Our coach was telling us Friday that LSU was wanting us to come down there, they got our film late," Massington said.
"Kam loved it, he started smiling. For me though, I didn't grow up on anybody, every time a school calls me or texts me I get a big smile."
